We just wanted to give a big shout out to the amazing Jessica Cook owner of Quintessential Gardens for donating her craft, skill and time to make our flower pots at our Learning Center beautiful every year (since 2017 when the buildings were first built)! Check out the pictures of the pots before our Farmraiser this past May.

It’s garlic scape season! These green shoots are actually the flowering part of the garlic plant- if left alone, they will flower and produce seeds. By harvesting them, we encourage the garlic plant to focus its energy on bulb development, and we get a delicious garlicky vegetable in the meantime! Stop by our Open Farm Day - June 20th to get some scapes to try for yourself. They are great in pesto or grilled or sautéed for a side dish!

Sending so much gratitude and love to Maxx Fildago, my former Executive Assistant and Event Coordinator! He served Round the Bend Farm for over 5 years and did so much to support our mission and create a stronger organization. He helped every facet of the non-profit - from coordinating events, helping to write grants, helping on the annual report, sorting jars, to serenading teammates with a beautiful song when they left the organization - he had a hand in so much!! We are so blessed to have him in our community and to have worked with him along the way! We are so glad his healing journey is underway and we look forward to reading his amazing articles in the future and all he does to bless this world! We love you Maxx!!!

Workshop & Dialogue Group: Rethinking Human “Waste” for Clean Water & Sustainable Farms
June 20th Public Workshop: 11:30 - 12:30; Dialogue Group (advance registration required): 1:00 - 2:30

This workshop with the Rich Earth Institute explores practical and emerging approaches to reclaiming human "waste" as a valuable resource for our watersheds, soils, and food systems. We'll focus on urine diversion and reuse as a low-tech, high-impact strategy for reducing nutrient pollution in waterways while creating a sustainable, locally-sourced fertilizer. We'll also explore research into biosolids biochar--a charcoal-like soil amendment made from wastewater treatment plant sludge which can reduce PFAS contamination by up to 90%. Rich Earth Institute and Cornell Cooperative Extension are actively researching its effects on crop yield and soil health, alongside the new social and environmental questions it raises.

Dialogue Group (1:00 - 2:30): Stay after the workshop for a facilitated small-group conversation and contribute your perspectives to ongoing research. A $40 stipend is provided to all dialogue group participants. Advance registration is required--to register or for questions, please write to [email protected].

We are so excited to be bringing the Manifest Love Food Truck back to AHA! New Bedford Pride Night! This is such a magical night for our community to celebrate the beautiful people of the LGBTQA+ community. Check out our menu and come find us downtown (on William St.) if you are in the area. All our food is farm-fresh and locally sourced.

Everything is served on reusable/washable dishware without any single-use. Come learn about the farm from Executive Director & Co-Founder Desa VanLaarhoven and enjoy some delicious food from Executive Chef & Kitchen Director Shaun.

** and if you want to take any food home bring your own re-usable to go container, help us care for our earth and community**

Hannah is known to be in less than appropriate clothing when doing goat chores... Tyler(her husband;) is often saying "I see you wore your Goatbusting shoes.." when she shows up in berkinstocks to move a group of goats on around the farm. Today she was caught milking out Lady Madonna in a dress and berks! Not all farmers wear cartharts! Some wear dresses....

The weather is heating up folks and for everyone on the farm that means we need to hydrate! Take a page out of Bash and Llewy's book and make sure you carry refillable water bottles with you where ever you go. You might find yourself riding your bike around the barn and then need some water. Or you just live that stroller life and like to have the option. Either way, bring a water bottle!

It's incredible how this month has flown by! May 2nd we had our 3rd Seeds We Sow Farmraiser to support our work! We are so grateful to ALL of you who supported it!! We are thrilled to report that thanks to our incredible community, we exceeded our $60,000 fundraising goal for the event, bringing in just over $64,000 to help fund our programs in the year ahead. All thanks to the sponsors, ticket holders, silent auction donors, in-kind donors, funders and volunteers!! We are humbled and so appreciative (and busy hence the late thank you!!) We just added two new members to the composting team! These ladies will help in reducing waste of food prep scraps, overgrown veg from the gardens and grass cuttings. They also add a powerful addition to our education work with the huge amount of filed trips we have and of course are also super cute! Thanks to our Executive Chef & Kitchen Director, Shaun, for taking on one more responsibility and helping to close the waste loop on the farm!
