The crisp weather and fall leaves have us craving fall treats, including apples! 🍎 Our RTB apple trees were transplanted from the nursery to their current homes in our production orchard in 2023. They are still young and aren’t fruiting consistently yet, but there were enough apples to allow the farm crew to taste test this season!

We created an annual tradition 10 years ago, Tiny House Trick or Treating for the OG RTB farm baby and so many of our farmy friends and their wee ones... And now all the other farm babies and loved ones have kept the cuteness and love flowing! Cheers to ten years of creative energy and a sustainable and healthyish Halloween!! Major thanks to Hannah and Shaun and the team for all of their work on this every year! p.s. we have so many other photos of families over the last ten years but we didn't want to post it without their permission.

While most of our annual crops are started in seed flats and transplanted in the field once they’ve sprouted, some of our crops are direct seeded right into the field. Last week, the farm crew direct seeded these beautiful mustard mizuna seeds in one of our fieldhouses. Be sure to look out for these spicy greens at one of our future Open Farm Days!

Around this time 5 years ago we lost our beloved farm dog Brie to the other side. Many of you might remember her and how amazing and hardworking she was. She would get into LOTS of trouble (she once crashed a wedding next door and helped herself to the wedding cake), she would wander down the middle of the road and in her later years got a little ornery. We loved her just the same. We now have Mayla, Scout and her son Jack is hanging on but we think about her often and will never forget how much she loved a good pile of leaves.

I would like to give a shout out to our hard working Brie. She may be napping in this pile of leaves right now but she works hard all night long watching over all of us. We love you Breezy!

We'd like to thank our amazing teammate Alicia’s Aunt, Rosanne Romiglio-Ashley of Four Winds One Breath for her intuitive eyes and capturing so many special moments and people during our 3rd Wampanoag Experience Powwow . As an indigenous artist herself; her understanding of the importance in sharing the stories, artistry, and connections that she and her peoples have to each other, the lands, and to The Great Spirit has been remarkably represented in her works. Her infectious energy and warmth was felt by everyone that day.

Our turmeric from the greenhouse 🌱🫚 This tropical crop thrives in hot, humid conditions, so we grew it in one of our greenhouses. Turmeric is technically a perennial that will go dormant through winter and sprout again in spring, but it can be grown as an annual and harvested at the end of the season if you don't live in a tropical climate. Using greenhouses help extend the growing season for plants like these where they otherwise wouldn't have enough warm days to grow.

Sending so much gratitude to all of the incredible People of the First Light (Wampanoag people) and all the other Native Americans from so many tribes that danced, sang, drummed, vended, cooked, photographed, taught and gathered at the 3rd Wampanoag Experience Powwow held at Round the Bend Farm. It was cold in temperature but the rain held out and the warmth from the people shone through for sure (excellent energy all around).

Thanks to the participants that came to the farm from all over that brought wonderful, love-filled energy, thanks to my superstar team at Round the Bend Farm (shoutout to Hannah and Alicia who as a Native American herself really helped to organize this powwow from start to finish), thanks to the incredible Elements Learning Collaborative and all who hosted the kids activities, thanks to ALL of the volunteers that came out this week to help (from setup to dishes and everything in between), a special thanks to our Lead Sponsor the Little Compton Historical Society (special thanks to Marjory O'Toole)— who reached out months and months ago and offered sweat equity and funding to put this powwow on!!!!

And of course a major thanks to all of the Dancers, Singers, demonstrators ( Elizabeth James Perry, Darius Coombs, Toodie Coombs and Cheyenne Galvin), the powerful drummers Yootay, the emcee Justin Beatty held it down all day and last but not Annawon Weeden, who without him none of this would be happening at Round the Bend Farm- he is a true cultural bridge builder and cultural warrior. We are grateful and humbled to be a small part of hosting a very sustainable, love-filled, diverse, cultural experience for the region. Thanks to all that believe in our work and support it in any way you can- we see you and appreciate you!! More pics to come....but today is for rest and outdoor time!
