It’s been a busy couple weeks for SPART - fortunately as Ski Patrollers we are often already close by when the emergency call is made, we grab our skis and head out to assist in the rescue. Thank you to the volunteers who give up their time to support our mission.

In the last couple weeks we’ve rescued subjects of an avalanche accident and multiple alpine fall injuries. We bring our expertise on snow and in the alpine environment to collaborate with the other units of King County Search and Rescue. It’s the teamwork that makes these rescues successful.

It’s been a busy couple weeks for SPART as we get ready for winter and our busy season. We’ve been refreshing our rigging skills, avalanche rescue skills, and winter patient transport skills. Hopefully we won’t need to use these skills to rescue you, but if you need us, we’ll be ready.

You are hopefully going to see some signs like this at your favorite tour starting spots at Snoqualmie Pass. These are intended to build awareness of the Backcountry Radio Channels program https://nwac.us/backcountry-radio-channels/

We are asking for your help in two ways:
1) Please continue to use and promote these channels
2) If you see any issues with the signs, please let us know OR go ahead fix them on the spot.

It was a big day yesterday for SPART as our avalanche rescue training was interrupted by a call of a skier with a broken leg on the North slopes of Chair Peak. This is complex terrain where an injury can turn into a long mission with an army of rescuers. SPART was first on scene with our patient, and thanks to the collaboration with more than 50 responders from SMR, ESAR, 4x4, IST and the other King County SAR units we safely got the subject to definitive care.
