The Opticians Association of Pennsylvania proudly supports Senate Bill 720 (SB 720), legislation designed to improve children's vision health across the Commonwealth. This important bill would strengthen vision care requirements for students by ensuring children receive comprehensive eye examinations at critical stages of their education, helping to identify vision problems early and improve academic success. SB 720 was introduced to increase the effectiveness of student vision examinations and has received bipartisan support in the Pennsylvania Senate.
Too many children struggle in the classroom because of undiagnosed vision issues. Vision screenings are valuable, but they are not a substitute for a comprehensive eye examination. Early detection and treatment of vision problems can have a profound impact on a child's ability to learn, participate in activities, and reach their full potential. Pennsylvania's own Department of Health has recognized the importance of comprehensive eye exams as a critical tool for identifying vision problems in school-aged children.
As advocates for quality eye care, we encourage Pennsylvania legislators to support SB 720 and invest in the vision health of our children. When children can see clearly, they are better equipped to succeed in school and in life.
