The Opticians Association of Pennsylvania proudly supports Senate Bill 720 (SB 720), legislation designed to improve children's vision health across the Commonwealth. This important bill would strengthen vision care requirements for students by ensuring children receive comprehensive eye examinations at critical stages of their education, helping to identify vision problems early and improve academic success. SB 720 was introduced to increase the effectiveness of student vision examinations and has received bipartisan support in the Pennsylvania Senate.

Too many children struggle in the classroom because of undiagnosed vision issues. Vision screenings are valuable, but they are not a substitute for a comprehensive eye examination. Early detection and treatment of vision problems can have a profound impact on a child's ability to learn, participate in activities, and reach their full potential. Pennsylvania's own Department of Health has recognized the importance of comprehensive eye exams as a critical tool for identifying vision problems in school-aged children.

As advocates for quality eye care, we encourage Pennsylvania legislators to support SB 720 and invest in the vision health of our children. When children can see clearly, they are better equipped to succeed in school and in life.

Last night’s meeting is now available on our new Advocacy page. You can catch up on the latest updates regarding the certification process, as well as ongoing efforts from the Legislative Committee.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion. These conversations continue to be productive, and we are working together to create a bill we can all be proud of—one written by opticians of Pennsylvania, for opticians of Pennsylvania.

Opticianry in Pennsylvania is shaped by decisions made in committee rooms and on the House floor. The OAP Legislative Committee is how our community speaks up, together, in one voice to protect the work we love.

🇺🇸 Today, we pause to honor and remember the courageous men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

This Memorial Day, the Opticians Association of Pennsylvania reflects on the sacrifices made to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day—including the ability to serve our communities and our profession with pride.

As we spend time with family and loved ones, let us never forget those who made it possible.

❤️🤍💙 We remember. We honor. We are forever grateful.
