Conestoga Valley Stands Up Addressing Equal Accessibility and Justice Issues in the Conestoga Valley Area

CVSU was originally formed to encourage our Conestoga Valley Schools to utilize covid-safety measures to promote health and well-being for our students, educators, families, and community; to allow parents/caretakers to remain at their work; and to enable our economy to remain open. With the many challenges to equal accessibility and justice that members of our community, state, and nation face, w

e want to unite with others in our community to expand awareness action opportunities. Besides Pandemic Safety concerns in our schools, we also plan to address:
- Historical Accuracy
- Anti-Racism, -Xenophobia, and -Sexism Work
- Disability Access - physical, developmental, and mental-health
- Inclusivity for the LGBTQ+ Community
- Neutrality on Religion (separation of Church and state-required schooling)
- Food and Housing Security
- Job Access and Living-Wage Accountability

We believe in CV Strong -- all together, and for every student in our community.

Two fierce women gave public comments during the first part of the agenda- both spoke against the proposed policy 123.3 citing:

- prior history of significant time spent on this matter with no action
- Zero students affected
- This policy does not further any of the district’s stated goals
- It is a pretend problem and they could waste a lot of time on a pretend solution
- No one is harmed by the current policy, but policies singling out trans youth are shown to cause measurable harm (su***de, depression, etc)

Idette Groff made a motion to delay the discussion citing it is not in line with their board approved timeline for introducing new policies and there is a pending supreme court case which could affect the law of the US.

Diane Martin, Julie Fisher, and Mark Gensel voted yay not to discuss at this time.

Phil Benigno, Phil Eby, Dianna Capka, and Laura Givler voted to discuss.

Since the motion did not pass they discussed, ultimately deciding to put it for solicitor review.

The next time this is likely to come up is April, however, as stated previously- please add the school board work sessions and meetings to your calendar and try to attend where possible to hold this board accountable.

Action item:

Email Idette and Diane (and Julie and Mark?) to thank them for voting to respect the time of meeting attendees by not discussing irrelevant topics- even though the motion did not pass. Their votes indicate they could potentially be reasonable voices on this matter.

🚨 Community Call to Action 🚨

Tomorrow, Monday, February 9, the CV School Board is introducing a policy that would designate school sports as either male or female based on “reproductive biology” and “genetic make-up.”

This proposal raises serious questions and concerns about:
• How students are defined and categorized
• Who gets excluded or harmed by this language
• How this policy would actually be enforced
• The broader impact on student safety, dignity, and inclusion

Regardless of where you land, this is something our community deserves clarity, transparency, and open discussion on before any decision is made.

We're asking neighbors, parents, educators, and community members to show up, ask questions, and make your concerns heard at the meeting. Silence will be taken as agreement, and this policy is too important to rush through without community input.

📍 CV School Board Work Session
đź—“ Monday, February 9
⏰ 7:00 PM
📍District Administration Board Room
502 Mount Sidney Road, Lancaster, PA 17602
(On the back of the new Smoketown Elementary)

Please consider attending or speaking during public comments. Our students deserve policies rooted in care, fairness, and thoughtful consideration, not vague definitions with real-world consequences.

If you can’t attend, sharing this post helps too.
