Gourmet Deli & Catering, Reno's beloved cooking school and gourmet deli, is designing and cooking the entire menu for this ranch-to-fork evening in Genoa. From supporting the opening of public access on the West Walker River, to investing in youth education in the Walker Basin, NextEra Energy is a valued partner to work with. The Conservancy's farm in Smith Valley has been busy with many projects this summer. One of which is a pilot to support the Bureau of Land Management.

Earlier this year the we planted a variety of species from the Mojave Desert. The successful growth of these plants along the Walker River show that the Conservancy's seedlings can support restoration efforts in the ecosystems of Southern Nevada, Southern California, and Western Arizona. All while using water wise irrigation methods.

We also had a surprising helper for this project, Brock the Badger, who dug their burrow near the fields to keep an eye on things. For now we will keep our distance from this new co-worker.

Great news from U.S. District Court Judge Miranda M. Du's issued ruling on July 30. The decision permanently protects 24.72 cubic feet per second of decreed water rights as in-stream flows of the Walker River for the benefit of fish and wildlife. On an annualized basis, this action will increase flows in the Walker River by more than 3,400 acre-feet per year.

Our stewardship team has been hard at work on a fuel reduction project in the Eastern Sierras. This work is being done in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service outside of Bridgeport California. The objective of this project is to minimize wildfire intensity and spread by removing dry vegetation, deadfall, and thinning dense areas. Healthy forests play an important role in our watersheds.
