Special post from our advisor, Ms. Bankston - I am so lucky to get to work with such amazing students every year. They truly are the best part of my job! Any teacher who runs a club knows how valuable student officers are, but let me tell you, I have been blessed with the best. Year after year, our HOSA Officers get stronger and make our chapter better. It makes me so proud to watch these teenagers lead our chapter! I truly couldn’t keep HOSA running without them. They are my babies, and as much as I hate saying goodbye, I can’t wait to see what the next officer team is capable of! It’s truly a privilege to have old students come back to visit, and today we had three old officers come to see the announcement of the new officer team! We were able to get a picture with a combined four generations of Slidell HOSA Officers! Thank you so much to every HOSA member who allows me to be a part of your journey. ♥️♥️

Slidell High HOSA showed up to help the National Marrow Donor Program with their swab kits! We labeled around 300 swab kits to be sent out to potential marrow donors. 💜💙💚 They were generous enough to send us some pizza, which was much appreciated! Everyone should consider signing up to be a marrow donor!

The week of April 13th, HOSA is doing a fundraiser that is also counting as a class wars competition. Kids can help their grade win by bringing in coins, and can sabotage other grades by bringing in cash. The rules are simple: coins add to their total, cash takes away. Each class sponsor will have four buckets, one for each grade, so kids can easily sabotage other grades and help theirs at the same time! 9th graders bring all money to Mrs. Kubala, 10th graders to Ms. McCarron - not Mrs. Simon - 11th graders to Mrs. Champagne, and 12th graders to Mrs. St. Cyr. The winning grade will get a jeans day, in addition to the class wars points!

Here’s an example of how the competition works: if 10th grade has $500 total, but $200 of it is cash, their competition total is $300. So coins add to your total, but other grades can sabotage you by putting cash in your grade’s bucket.

Louisiana HOSA State Leadership Conference 2026

This was our chapter’s fifth time attending SLC, and it’s amazing to see how much we’ve grown! We took 6 students to our first SLC in 2022, and this year we took 33 students!

All of our students competed in various events, and we had two teams place in the top 3 for their events, out of the whole state! We had the 1st place team for Forensic Science and the 2nd place team for Health Career Display.

SLC is always a whirlwind, and a unique experience of its own - just ask any HOSA member who has attended. 😄 But it’s the most amazing thing to see so many future health professionals get together and truly shine!

SLC creates memories and friendships that will stick with you, along with blisters and sleep deprivation…but it’s so worth it!

Thank you to all of the parents and teachers who support, motivate, and inspire these amazing students. I couldn’t be prouder to be their HOSA advisor!

HOSA was invited to help at a SHINE club meeting at Bonne Ecole Elementary! They helped the students make bracelets for cancer patients, decorate kindness rocks, and design posters for their school! It was an incredible opportunity for a great group of young student leaders and our future leaders in healthcare to work together. Thank you for having us!
