Meet Ivy! Ivy is a sweet, approximately one-year-old German Shepherd who was rescued from Will County Animal Control. She can be a little shy when she first meets someone, but once she feels comfortable, her gentle and loving personality shines through.

Ivy does well with other dogs and would enjoy having a canine playmate in her forever home. She is housebroken and does well in her crate. She is still working on her leash skills and basic commands, so her new family should be willing to continue her obedience training and help her build confidence.

Ivy is a young girl with so much potential who is looking for a patient, loving family that will give her the time and guidance she needs to blossom. With a little training and plenty of love, Ivy will make a wonderful companion.

If interested in adopting Ivy, complete an application at www.gsrescue1.org

Please note applicants must be within 2 hours of Chicago.

Hi GSR supporters — we need your help! GSR has been hit hard with medical bills recently. Throughout 2026 we’ve been running a $5000 monthly deficit which has been depleting our savings. Veterinarian costs continue to increase, yet we have kept out adoption fees the same. GSR is known for taking in some tough medical cases, but we can’t help these dogs without funds. In addition, we have several long term rescues that require ongoing medical care and 3 heartworm positive dogs.

Luna is our most recent medical case from CACC. She was surrendered due to no fault of her own at 7 years old. Luna sat for weeks until a foster home stepped up. Once in our care, we recognized immediately Luna had a UTI. We started her on antibiotics and pain meds but we weren’t seeing the improvement expected. X-rays revealed Luna had a large bladder stone and she needed emergency surgery. Needless to say, this surgery was costly and an unexpected cost.

Our friends at The Rosenthal Family Foundation have agreed to do a donation match up to $1250! This means you have a chance to double your impact! No donation is too small and will go directly to the vetting of our dogs in foster care.

We thank you in advance for your support ♥️

****ADOPTED****

Cherise is a smart, spunky 7-month-old German Shepherd puppy who may be on the smaller side, but she is BIG on personality!

Cherise was rescued from CACC after being surrendered and is now enjoying life in her foster home, where she is fostered with two other German Shepherds. She loves playing with her foster siblings and definitely has a bossy little personality! Because of this, a meet and greet will be required with any resident dogs to make sure everyone is a good match.

Cherise is doing well with her housebreaking and is also doing well in her crate. She is fostered with children ages 9, 14, and 15 and does well with them.

Cherise is still very much a puppy and can be mouthy when she plays, so a home with very young children may not be the best fit for her.

If you're looking for a fun, smart, playful puppy with plenty of personality, Cherise might just be your girl! Apply at www.gsrescue1.org

Fostering saves lives! Welcome to GSR Sparky! This boy waited 5 months to be adopted and for one reason or another it never worked out. Glad we could help save him! ♥️

💙 A BIG thank you to German Shepherd Rescue, Inc! 💙

We’re so grateful to German Shepherd Rescue, Inc. for finding a wonderful foster family for our Sparky! 🐾 We’re keeping our paws crossed that his foster home leads him to the forever family he’s been waiting for. 🏡

Until then, Sparky doesn’t need much to be happy—a ball and someone willing to toss it! 🐶⚾

Thank you for giving this sweet boy a chance to enjoy some time out of the shelter while he waits for his happily ever after. 💙

Go get ’em, Sparky! 🐾

Blossom update!

It’s hard to believe Blossom is 8 weeks post-op! This sweet girl came to us from CACC and we made an urgent post to help save her leg. Our supporters showed up BIG, and we were able to cover her surgery. It was a little tougher of a surgery because scar tissue had began to form, but it went well! Dr. Timmons used a custom plate and screws to repair her femur. She is healing well and has another follow up on 8/28. We can’t think all of our donors enough and to her wonderful foster home for stepping up — which we suspect will turn into a Foster failure 😉 your support allows us to continue to save dogs like Blossom!

****ADOPTED****

Maximus was born November 2024 and weighs 80 lbs. He came to GSR from a rescue partner that removed him from a bad situation. Maximus is a goofy, sweet, and very handsome boy ready for a forever home! He has completed basic obedience training, is housebroken, and crate trained. Maximus is fostered with two other GSDS - he likes to play but can be rough. He would enjoy a playmate that keep up with him and wouldn’t mind that he is a ball hog. Maximus is active — he would love a home that can take him hiking, swimming, and keep him busy with his favorite game of fetch. Maximus would benefit from continued training - he is very intelligent and loves to work. He has been around children and does well, but doesn’t always understand his size and can knock littles over. If a fun, energetic, and playful boy sounds like the type of dog you’ve been looking for, Maximus might be your guy! If interested apply at www.gsrescue1.org
