Sheltering Silverton

We want to highlight an important community partner. The Silver Falls Library District has worked closely with Sheltering Silverton since our start ten years ago. They consistently provide compassionate hospitality to people in the community who don't have other places to spend their days. They open their space for cooling operations during the hottest summer days and they welcome people in from the cold during the winter. Additionally they commit to educational programming and opportunities to learn more about the root causes of homelessness and poverty and create a bridge for community understanding. As we wrap up a few days of extreme heat, we are particularly grateful to our local library and their caring staff for all that they do to make the Silver Falls community a place for all neighbors. Thank you!

Thank you to the Silverton community and to 100 People Who Care for this generous support! Thanks to you, we can continue the operation of Kimberly Cottage, our emergency family shelter, into the next year!

100 People Who Care - Silver Falls Region has chosen Sheltering Silverton as this round’s recipient, and we could not be more pleased to report that together thus far we have provided $10,428 to Sheltering Silverton!

These donations will help support Kimberly Cottage, a family shelter that gives local families a safe place to stay for up to a month while they work toward stable, permanent housing.

The beauty of kinship work comes in little moments. While our shelter community regularly encounters many of the most dysfunctional aspects of contemporary society and human cruelty, we also confront bravery, tenderness, resilience, and humor. We are sustained by fixing our attention on those moments that remind us why we are in the mix and what goodness can be found at the margins. Here are some glimpses into our shelter world--rescued ducklings, our favorite tiny shelter visitor, notes and tokens of appreciation, and moments of learning and teamwork.

Every year our team slows down our day shelter and services work to focus on team development. It's a challenge to train as a team when you operate a 24/7 service so we do appreciate our community's patience as we focus on team growth.
