Good evening! It’s Deborah, your SEPTA President. I'm reaching out personally to invite you to our SEPTA meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, October 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the Wading River School library.
I'm often asked what it means to have a PTA just for our special education community. To me, it means we are here to be the village for the parents who feel they have no village. For the families navigating IEPs, 504s, supports and services, we want to be your compass when you feel lost. And for the parent who simply needs someone to listen, we're here to be that listening ear, with no judgment and no explanation needed.
At tomorrow's meeting, I'll be presenting Advocacy 101, a practical introduction to advocating for your child. Whether your child is newly identified or you've been at this for years, my hope is that you'll walk away feeling more confident and better equipped to be your child's strongest voice.
Thanks to a wonderful volunteer, childcare will be provided, and refreshments will be served, so please don't let either of those keep you from joining us. You don't need to have a specific question or to have attended a meeting before; you just need to come as you are. Caregivers, grandparents, educators, and anyone who cares about our students are welcome too. I hope to see you tomorrow for our first meeting of the year.
