✨A huge congratulations to Iesha M. Daniels for booking School Girls: Or, The African Mean Girls Play by Jocelyn Bioh. Previews begin next week, with their official opening set for September 28. Congratulations on your Broadway debut!

✨SBT’s Director of Education and Research, Dr. Gregory King, advocated for bill AB2599 in partnership with the Black Equity Collective this past week in Sacramento. The Bill has passed and is now awaiting Governor Gavin Newsom’s signature. Thank you for always advocating for the people!

✨Jessica Williams is directing the world premiere of Coco Queens by LaDarrion Williams in partnership with Outside In Theatre, and we could not be more excited for this show and to support her on this journey. Coco Queens premieres this fall in Los Angeles, so keep a lookout for when tix go on sale!

✨SBT’s Associate Executive Director, Tyrone Davis, has accepted a tenure-track position at Occidental College. As an Assistant Professor in the theatre department, he will continue to pour into this next generation of artists through both SBT and OXY. We are so proud of you!

✨Carene R. Mekertichyan is in Comedy of Errors! This is the last weekend to go support the Independent Shakespeare Company for their summer series. Carene, we are so proud of you and always rooting for you, queen!

We are thrilled to announce that Emmy-nominated writer, producer and showrunner Courtney A. Kemp is officially joining our Industry Panel: Producing Power & Possibility ✊🏾📺

Courtney A. Kemp’s bold storytelling has reshaped contemporary television. She is the creator of the groundbreaking STARZ series Power and the expansive Power Universe, one of television’s most successful franchises. Most recently, Kemp co-created and serves as showrunner and executive producer of Netflix’s hit crime drama Nemesis. Through her production company, End of Episode, she continues to develop ambitious, character-driven stories that center complex voices and expand what is possible for Black creators in Hollywood. We could not be more thrilled to have her voice in the room for this powerhouse conversation!�

✨Tracie Thoms✨– A powerhouse performer of stage, TV, and film (Rent, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Stick Fly, ABC’s 9-1-1)! We are thrilled to welcome her profound insight, artistry, and generosity to the panel.

✨Matthew Law✨ – A brilliant multi-hyphenate actor, director, and producer (Netflix’s Nemesis, ABC’s Abbott Elementary, and creator of TRUE: An Immersive Cinematic Experience). We are so excited to welcome his creative leadership and bold perspective!

✨Barry Shabaka Henley✨ – An incomparable veteran of stage and screen with an extraordinary career spanning decades, from August Wilson’s Jitney to acclaimed films like Collateral and A Star Is Born, and Netflix’s Forever. We are deeply honored to welcome an artist of his stature and profound theatrical lineage.
