Downtown Sharon and River Gardens Park are ready for Summer and the Memorial Holiday Weekend! The Sharon Beautification Commission members and volunteers have been busy installing the new hanging baskets, ground flower pots, American Flags and Banners. Many people to thank including all the businesses and individuals who sponsored the 100 Hanging Flower Baskets! Cottage Gardens and DJ’s Nursery always do a great job for us with the beautiful flowers! Mike Lisac and Warehouse donated the America 250 banners. The Sharon Street Dept does a tremendous with the landscaping work on State St and the ‘hidden gem’ that is River Gardens Park along the Shenango River.

Despite this cold and damp weather this morning, the Beautification Commission and volunteers accomplished a lot at River Gardens Park in the downtown . Weeding and mulching work was completed. Still more spring time chores to do but the park is looking good. Thanks to the Sharon Street Dept for the excellent work they do mowing the property! Take the opportunity to stroll through this river side park - a bit of a hidden asset in our city!

Sharon Beautification Members and Volunteers have been busy this spring!
Here are pictures are a few of our projects:
New ‘America 250’ banners along the Shenango River! Special thanks to Mike Lisac of Warehouse Sales for donating the banners and to Sharon Commercial Printing to providing great service on the banner hardware!
The American Flags are annually displayed on E State St! Again, a thank you to Warehouse Sales for their quality service.
The Hanging Flower Baskets and Ground Flower Baskets will be installed toward the end of May. Cottage Gardens and DJ Greenhouse always do an excellent job for us! 100 Hanging Baskets are sponsored by individuals and businesses each year! Less than 10 Sponsorships remain for this year. Please let us know if you are interested!
A recently completed project we are very proud of was orchestrating the clearing of walkway and wooded area along the Shenango River behind the McDowell Manor Senior Apartments. Jim and Jen Landino of JCL Development made a very generous donation to this project which consisted of clearing and trimming trees and brush and eradicating a severe poison ivy problem. Our outstanding contracted workers were Ray Delgros Tree Service and Jennifer Senchak of Restoreth Roots. The finished area created a safer, more open environment for residents of the area. Take the opportunity to see the transformation of beautiful area with Shenango River views.
This Saturday, May 2nd, our work continues at River Gardens Park in the downtown as we have scheduled our annual work day of weeding, mulching and general cleanup. Join us from 9:00 to Noon. Work materials provided.

GIVING WEEK is underway via the Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern OH. The Sharon Community Development Corporation is partnering with the City of Sharon and the Sharon Beautification Commission to raise funds for the Downtown Holiday Decorations. Shout out to all the volunteers who came out and assisted with hanging more than 50 hanging flower baskets and 50 flags in the downtown Monday. We’ll need volunteers 5 pm Thursday to help us hang the rest of them! We invite volunteers to meet up in the parking lot across from Donna’s Diner (10 W. State St.) next to First National Bank. If you have stepladder, please bring it.
They will also need assistance with transporting flower baskets Thursday evening (after 4 PM) at DJ’s Greenhouse in Transfer.

Special thanks to all 116 people/companies that sponsored baskets to help beautify our downtown and to all of our volunteers who helped with getting the word out about the sponsorship opportunity. Also special thanks to the Public Works Department who laid the mulch in the downtown - which was provided by Sharon Beautification Commission!
