Learning and Growing Together This Summer! š±As part of our Paulsboro Pride Summer Community Beautification Initiative and Summer Youth Scholars Program, we had the pleasure of partnering with the PHS Community Garden again this summer to keep our young people engaged, teach them about growing and sustainability, and help put fresh, healthy foods into the homes of our neighbors.
Our students were busy this summer! From learning about different crops and building compost bins to planting, watering, seeding, and caring for the garden, for five weeks they received hands-on experience every step of the way. They also learned recipes and creative ways to use the fresh foods they helped growāincluding tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and spicesāconnecting gardening with healthy eating and showing them how what we grow can go directly from the garden to the table. š

Most importantly, they learned that beautifying and strengthening a community is about more than what we plantāitās about working together, learning new skills, and sharing what we grow with our neighbors.
A special thank you to Dr. Backus and Mrs. Porter from Paulsboro High School for dedicating part of your summer to teaching our students, sharing your knowledge, and giving them the opportunity to learn and try something new! We also thank Mrs. Kia Farmer and the AKA AGPO Enhancing Our Environment Committee for coming out and working alongside our students.
