This is Amy. She works for the county extension office. Itโs Fair Week. She has answered the same question approximately 4,192 times and accepted at least that many phone calls, many from the same five women. She knows where the class lists, ribbons, buckles, buckets, open class corn entries, that one mother, and the jar of champion pickles are located. She has each of the ten club leaders on speed dial and she has a key to the concessions stand and her own bag of chocolate stashed in a green bean bag in the freezer. This is not her first rodeo. She knows the location of the stamps, the show photographer, the extra ink, the champion pen of chickens, the local veterinarian, the name tags, and the auctioneer who thinks no one knows which trailer heโs in drinking beer. She doesnโt currently know the exact location of one hog and a ring man, but sheโs hot on their trail. She has taken 614 complaints and passed them along to the correct fair board member, county commissioner, or club leader. She knows where the friendly fair board members keep their coolers, has her chair strategically placed over an a/c vent, and though she wouldnโt trade this week for the world, sheโll be glad when itโs over.
