Before becoming a certified instructor, Gary served as an assistant instructor for several years helping teach classes and learn more about becoming an instructor. He also serves as a board member for the Seward County Pheasants Forever chapter, and has volunteered as a mentor for the chapterโs youth mentor hunts and was one of the first mentors to participate in the Next Steps mentor hunt program with Nebraska Pheasants Forever.

I raised four girls, and I attended hunter education with each of them. It turned into a father-daughter experience that we all enjoyed, and I was able to learn from several different instructors over the years as well.
๐ช๐ต๐ ๐ฑ๐ผ ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต ๐๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ฑ? My best friend's father, Kim Wiemers, took me under his wing when I was a kid after my parents divorced and my father moved away. He signed us up for hunter ed in McCook where we grew up and took a bunch of us kids from the neighborhood to the class. He sat through it with us and even took the test at the end. We all gave him a hard time when we scored better than he did! He then proceeded to take us hunting, fishing, and camping for the next several years. Those were some of the best times of my life. He has since passed, but I have many fond memories of that time with him and my buddies. Hunting has always been an important part of my life, and I want to pass it along to the next generation.

Learning is so much a part of the hunting experience. Be sure you know how to safely handle your firearm or bow, but then don't be afraid to learn, try, fail, and try again! Better yet, find a hunting buddy and learn together! You may not harvest game at first, but you'll never regret spending time in the field and learning along the way.
