Tate County SWCD Annual Membership Banquet 2026

Each year, we come together for a night of wonderful music and fellowship over a great meal to with local conservationists, farmers, ranchers, and SWCD members.

This year, Ida Wallace, our longest active member at 98 years old, expressed her gratitude for receive a proclamation at last year’s banquet, that she was unable to attend, in appreciation of her many years of dedication to Tate County SWCD. Mrs Ida also spoke to us all about the importance of conserving our natural resources. As a touching ending to her speech, her son Will Wallace read a beautiful poem, Tree by Joyce Kilmer.

Our NRCS partners in conservation were represented by Mrs. Chantel Davis, Supervisory District Conservationist, and Mrs. Christy Robinson, Assistant State Conservationist. Each giving updates on the excellent work done in the prior fiscal year as well as some exciting changes for the current fiscal year.

Mr. Andy Gaines was recognized as the 2025 SWCD Cooperator of the Year. He received a plaque presented by all of the District Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners as a token of appreciation for his contributions and dedication to ensuring his grazing land is cared for and improved for generations to come.

Our very own MACD State Essay Winner for grades 7-9th, Lucas McAlexander was even to attend with his mother, Jessica. Great job Lucas!!! You made Magnolia Heights and Tate County proud!

Last but certainly not least, our entertainment for the evening, Brian Sherwood of Cleveland and Joe Austin of Pontotoc (make up half of the band Joe Austin and The Tallahatchies) blew the crowd away with their soulful, country sound.

Thank you to EVERYONE who came out tonight and continues to support conservation in Tate County!

This week has been all about our Third Grade Tree Program! Visiting with over 200 Third Graders in Tate County was BUSY but FUN as always!!

The kiddos learned about why trees are so important to us (from producing oxygen to the manufacturing of items we use every day for shelter, food, and hygiene). Students also learned to identify the different parts of a tree and what makes a tree an evergreen or deciduous in a fun and engaging sorting activity. Thank you to Magnolia Heights and Senatobia Elementary School for allowing us to share this important conservation message with your students!

Last Friday, February 14, 2026 beginning at 8a.m, the Tate County SWCD held their annual tree giveaway. This year the event had to be hosted at a new location due to the ice storm destroying the Farmers Market three weeks prior. So we’re sending a HUGE THANK YOU out to the Northwest Shriner Club on Highway 51 for allowing us to use their facilities!!!!
