A busy night at the first meeting of the month. Thank you to everyone who came to hear Erin Routzahn speak about her new project workbook “The Garden I’m Growing.” We wish her much success launching this resource for kids and adults alike for Social and Emotional Learning.

Gulfport Kiwanis received a thank you from
Governor-Elect Kerri Gordon of a jigsaw piece for the club’s contribution to the Caring Corner account. Division 13 Lt Governor Joe Dobrinski presented the thank you to Club President Allen Yergovich.

Finally, thank you to everyone who donated backpacks, uniforms and school supplies for our school drive. All donations will be going to support Gulfport Elementary. Thank you to club member Conchita Davis for delivering these items for the club.

This weekend’s Kiwanis International Florida District Convention in Orlando brought a lot of recognition to the clubs in Florida Kiwanis, Division 13 with Distinguished Club and Presidential Recognition awards. Congratulations to all Division 13 members who received distinction this year. Well deserved!

Our speaker is Erin Rautzahn, Chief Planting Officer and Founder of Planting it Forward.

Erin recently created “The Garden I'm Growing,” an interactive SEL workbook for elementary-aged students that helps build emotional awareness, resilience, kindness, positive self-talk, and healthy decision-making through a simple garden metaphor. It also aligns with Florida's Resiliency Education Standards.

This is a great opportunity to learn first hand from the founder of a special resource to support Social and Emotional Learning in learning centers as well as communities.

Great card playing at Gulfport Kiwanis Charity Poker game tonight at V9 EATS. Full houses, straights, flushes and four of a kind made their appearances through out the night. The final winning hand, four 7’s, won all the pot. Congratulations to our winner! Next Saturday, July 18, come play some friendly Texas Hold’em for the kids. A donation of $40 gets you playing chips plus beer, soda or wine. Grand prize is a $300 gift card!!

Gulfport Kiwanis celebrated its 6th Annual Juneteenth event. It was at a new location at Tomlinson Park and a new collaboration with Fusion 49th District. Thank you to City of Gulfport Mayor Karen Love, Vice Mayor Marlene Shaw, Councilmembers Nancy Earley and Jennifer Webb for attending. Thank you to the city of Gulfport which has supported this event
since the beginning. Representatives from the City of St. Petersburg took time to attend including Councilman Corey Givens.

The collaboration with Fusion 49th District was a year in the making. Events of substance take time. We are excited to join forces again to bring 2027 Juneteenth together.

Another great partner which made the event go well was St. Petersburg High School Key Club. We so appreciate the service and help the Key Club provides for our events.

We had a lovely group of vendors, loyal attendees who have attended our Juneteenth for the last few years and a great group of Kiwanians who were ready to serve and make this holiday the best for everyone.

We look forward to next year bringing community and children together. Thank you to everyone who supported the event!

🌳 Free Community Tree Giveaway 🌳

The City of Gulfport invites residents to the Free Community Tree Giveaway on Saturday, June 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Clymer Park (Greenway), 23rd Ave. S. & Beach Blvd. S.

As part of Gulfport’s ongoing Plant a Tree Initiative, residents can receive a free tree to enhance their property, provide shade, support local wildlife, and help grow our community's tree canopy.

🌿 Available tree species include:
• Gumbo Limbo – A Florida native known for its wind resistance, drought tolerance, and distinctive red bark.
• Sand Live Oak – A hardy native oak that provides excellent shade and adapts well to Florida’s sandy soils and coastal conditions.
• American Elm – A beautiful shade tree with a graceful canopy that supports birds and other wildlife.
• Sweetgum – A fast-growing tree prized for its vibrant fall color and ability to thrive in Florida landscapes.

Gulfport residents must provide proof of residency with a driver's license or water bill to receive a tree. Trees are available while supplies last.
