As another school year comes to a close, filled with learning, curriculum milestones, and state testing, take a moment to show appreciation for the people who make it all possible. Our teachers, administrators, office staff, and cafeteria teams work tirelessly to support our students every day - your gratitude goes a long way.

As the Selbyville Historical Society reflects on its role in the community, its mission and goals continue to evolve with a strong emphasis on education. From engaging guest speakers to meaningful community programs that promote historical awareness, SHS is actively exploring new ways to enrich and connect our community through history.

Our latest presentation is ready for you to check out! You’ll learn some interesting vocab like “measure,” “basket case,” and even the difference between a “coffin” and a “casket.” Plus, here’s a fun one—want a chance to win an SHS T-shirt? Email us the answer to this question: what movie was Mr. Hastings supposed to be the undertaker in?

One more day. Just one more day. We can do this everybody. We just have to pull together for 24 more hours and then the weekend is here again.

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Thursday!! Today I found a neat article from 1961 as they highlighted some special people that work within our schools, and that's the Lunch staff.

You might not realize it, but our 4 local schools feed so many kids each morning and afternoon, over 1500+. Our school cafeterias are operating on the scales of a large restaurant, and it's an amazing feat to see each day.

In my school alone, we have 750+ kids, and roughly 5-600 of them buy lunch each day. Not too many restaurants in our area do that type of business every single day, in a 2.5 hr window, no matter the season.

So I'm shouting out all the lunch staff members today that work super hard to make sure all the kids are squared away before they start their day, and then help them get through the rest of it.

In reality, I could give kudos to everyone that works in our schools because all of you are epic. It takes a village, and you're all appreciated. Keep it up.

Hi everyone!! Hidden within the pages of the April 30, 1970 edition of the Delmarva News I found an ad for the circus that came to town that year. I believe this is the same circus that we've spoken about before, but I could be wrong. How about that crocodile ad huh? Holy cow!! It must have been a fun time.

We're just a few weeks away from our very own fun time, as May 16th is quickly creeping up on us like a stalking croc. Tickets are available on our site, and the link is here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/3rd-annual-fundraiser

Have a wonderful evening and I'll catch ya tomorrow!

Well, I'm feeling pretty good after yesterdays procedure at Johns Hopkins, so I thought I'd hop on here and see how everyone is doing? Me, not too shabby. I can actually hear again, and let me tell you, it's a wonderful thing.

Also, a massive shoutout to everyone who has watched our most recent Selbyville Spot video featuring Mr. Jeff Mumford sharing the history of Mumford Sheet Metal Works. It's the fastest video we've had to date get to over 100 views. As of this, it's sitting at 102. Epic!!!

So, I'm gonna share it again. In all honesty, it's to keep it up high in the feed and easy for those who have not seen it yet. I have solved that problem moving forward, and once I'm allowed to share it with you all, I will. Until then, enjoy a repeat.

Hope you're all doing well. See ya!!!

Good evening everyone!! I'm breaking tradition here and posting an evening round for ya tonight. The reason being that I just finished editing and uploading our most recent Selbyville Spot featuring Mr. Jeff Mumford, and his sharing of the history of Mumford Sheet Metal Works.

I'm heading to Johns Hopkins tomorrow and it's going to be a wicked long day, so I figured it would be best to share now. There may be a different "voice" on the page for the next few days, until I work out some kinks in the chain, so be kind to them. Lol.

I hope you all enjoy the video. I'm posting the link a few times in case we run into issues like last time. If something seems off, please reach out and make us aware. We'd be appreciative.

Good morning everyone!! I once worked for a national pest control chain and during the 2016 season, I finished 1st in the company at my job. My position at the time wasn't sales though, it was based around other criteria, but the feeling of knowing I was the best in the whole country was pretty amazing. Got a nice trip to Cancun because of it, lol.

So, when I saw this story from 1964 this morning, it brought back a fond memory from those days of corporate competitions. I can imagine the pride that Mr. Bunting and his family felt, because stores were likely far and few between in those days. So being one of the best to do it, must have felt great.

Reminder for you all as we head into this week is that we do have tickets available for our 3rd annual fundraiser on May 16 available for you to purchase. Here's a link for you: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/3rd-annual-fundraiser - Just remember to make the donation 0 if you'd like when that box shows up.

Have a wonderful day, and I'll catch up with you all tomorrow!

Happy Saturday to you all!! Look, when I'm searching through the old papers digging for stuff I come across all sorts of neat information and articles.

For example, I learned that it was in 1959 when Bishopville built that little dam that was there for the majority of our lives before they restored it to the beautfiul nature like scene that it is today.

It's not Selbyville related, but it's pretty darn cool.

So today, from the same paper in 1959 I bring you a pretty neat ad for the Old Timers Day promotion. Hard to beat those prices.

I know its chilly outside right now, so stay warm until the Flyers take the ice at 8pm!!! They'll keep ya nice and warm for the rest of the evening. Let's Go Flyers!!!!

Good Friday afternoon to you all!!! Thanks a whole bunch to everyone who came out for last nights meeting!! Mr. Jeff Mumford did a fantastic job of sharing the history of Mumford Sheet Metal Works. Per usual, I did record it and I will get it edited and uploaded for you all soon. Stay tuned!

This afternoon I got a reminder from the DMV that its my turn to head on through and get another (2) years on the 'ol registration. With that in mind, I found today's post. It's from 1977, and It's not a great photo I have to admit; but it appears to be a ribbon cutting of sorts from a new car dealership that opened in town.

With cars on my brain I would like to remind you that we are looking for some hotrods and classic cars for our May 16 3rd annual fundraiser so, please reach out to us if you're interested.

I'm out! Enjoy this beautiful evening with your family and friends and we'll catch up with ya tomorrow!!!
