Marines at First State Detachment The First State Detachment Marines is a charted 501 (c) 4 non-profit Navy Champlain and earned the FMF Badge serving with Marines.

On April 14, 1989 a band of Marines gathered at “Chuck’s Country Crab” in Fenwick Island Delaware to sign our Charter creating The First State Detachment, the first Detachment in the state of Delaware. The First State Detachment Marines is a chartered 501 (c) 4 non-profit organized to raise funds that support local community service programs to enhance the lives of the communities we serve. Money

raised benefit and support our neighbors in Worcester and Sussex Counties here on the Eastern Shore. Projects like our Youth Physical Fitness Program, Toys for Tots, The Semper Fi Fund and other noble charities have benefitted deserving families and individuals since our founding in 1989


We welcome new members. Membership is open to all that are serving or have served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, on active duty, for no less than ninety days or have served or are currently serving the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and have earned no less than ninety Reserve Retirement Credit Points or that have served or currently serving as a U.S. Navy Corpsman who has trained with Marine FMF Units in excess of ninety days and earned the Marine Corps Device or Warfare Device worn on the Service Ribbon authorized for FMF Corpsmen, or have served or are currently serving as a U.S. Opportunity for Associate membership is extended to anyone interested in supporting and contributing to the mission of the First State Detachment, MCL.

First State Detachment member Frank Del Piano has been a member of the "Virginia Grand Military Band" for many years. He recently played this past Memorial Day Weekend. The Virginia Grand Military Band is known for its rousing concerts, its charismatic conductor, and the excellence of its performances. It is widely recognized as one of the finest bands of its kind. Frank, who is a drummer, is pictured below (Left) with fellow drummer Jack Delaney. Over the years the Band has covered movie themes from John Williams (Jurassic Park, Star Wars, ET, Home Alone) and Medleys of Beatles songs.

First State Detachment members started their Memorial Day by joining America Legion Post 166 members at the Beach Ceremony on 16st to memorialize all who have lost their lives at sea. Next was the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Worcester County Veterans Memorial at Ocean Pines. The final stop was back at American Legion Post 166 for their Memorial Day Ceremony, some good food and camaraderie.

First State Detachment had a great time at this year's "Cursin' Ocean City" at the Roland E Powell Convention Center. We thank everyone who stopped by our booth to chat and support our charities by buy a raffle ticket for our awesome electric bicycle. First State Marines has teamed up once again with American Legion Post 166 Leathernecks for their second annual Military Veterans Charity Golf Tournament on Monday June 17th. The team of volunteer Marines and Legionnaires will be hosting this year’s tournament at the Ocean city Golf Club in Berlin Maryland. Last year’s event raised funds for The Semper Fi & America’s Fund and Believe in Tomorrow Children’s Fund. Local Businesses and Resident Patriots are invited to sign up to play in our tournament, buy a Tee Box sign, donate a prize or make a donation.
