Sponsor, promoter, and facilitator of RID CEUs and Interpreter Education. You can message me for more details or email me at [email protected].

My name is Trista Smith and I am an RID CMP sponsor through the Hearing, Speech & Deaf Center. I have been looking for ways to promote Community Educational Events that are outside of the standard scope of RID sponsored events. There is so much rich knowledge available though our museums, colleges, medical centers, and community service organizations. My goal is to promote events that support teaching in cultural knowledge, minority/marginalized populations, medical, legal, and all specialized areas. While I will do my best to promote local events around Washington State (and possibly Idaho and Oregon for those that live near the boarders), please feel free to notify me of anything you think sounds great and should be an opportunity to earn CEUS. Each event promoted will have a PINRA form already provided for you to fill out and earn CEUs for attending the event. Some events will even have an Independent Study opportunity to further learning and greater CEUS. I am also here if you need CEUs through Independent Study, Academic Coursework, PINRA or would like to have your event become RID sponsored. I look forward to helping you on your CEU journey, wherever you hope that may take you!

I’ll Tell You Later: Deaf Survivors of Dinner Table Syndrome: For centuries, Deaf people were expected to sit quietly at the table when their hearing families shared a meal. Some might have asked the person sitting nearby, “What are they saying?” The usual response? “I’ll tell you later.” When the meal is done, the Deaf person would naturally follow up: “What did they say?” The usual response? “I’m sorry I forgot.” Only recently was this transgression given a name: Dinner Table Syndrome.

In this anthology, nineteen Deaf and hard of hearing writers share their DTS experiences of anguish and defiance through essays, short stories, and poems, all of which illuminate what it means to be left starving at mealtime. (0.65 PPO-Professional Studies CEUs)

She tells the story of how, over time, she came to realize that clear or articulate self-expression isn’t just a static pinnacle to reach, a set of words to pronounce correctly, but rather a living and breathing process that happens between individual human beings. In chronicling her own voice and the many ways she’s come to understand it, Kolb illuminates the stakes and complexities of finding mutual and reciprocal forms of communication. Part memoir, part cultural exploration, Articulate details a life lived among words in varied sensory forms and considers why and how those words matter. Told through rich storytelling, analysis, and humor, this is a linguistic coming-of-age in both Deaf and hearing worlds, challenging us to consider how language expresses our humanity—and offering more ways we might exist together. NEW CEUs Projects for July 2026, America's 250th!

“America at 250: A History” by YaleCourses available on YouTube. This one-time-only course examines U.S. history from 1776 to the present, in advance of the nation's semiquincentennial (or 250th birthday) in 2026. Taught jointly by Professors Joanne Freeman, David Blight, and Beverly Gage, the course emphasizes the history of the nation-state and the contested nature of American national identity. The class explores U.S. political history broadly conceived–not just as a realm of presidents, elections, and wars (though there will be plenty of those) but as a conversation across time between citizens about what the United States is, was, and was meant to be. It proceeds from the premise that the American Revolution was the first but not the last radical act of reimagining in U.S. history. These courses will cover topics of Independence, Power, Democracy, Protest and Reform, Slavery, Immigration, Race, Rights, and Resistance. (1.0 Professional Studies CEUs)

Project Requirements: There is a total of 26 individual courses on this video playlist. You may choose any 10 of them you like. You will then answer 5 questions per lecture, totaling a 2,000 word minimum.

"The American Experiment" is a five-part historical documentary series on Netflix. It was released in 2026 to coincide with the nation's 250th anniversary, the series examines the origins of American democracy, the founding ideals, and whether the nation's system of self-rule can endure.

The American Experiment is comprised of 5 episodes. Each episode covers topics such as Freedom, Tyranny, War, Forms of Government, and Partisanship. To contextualize historical events with modern political debates, the series features commentary and insights from a remarkably wide-ranging mix of politicians, historians, and scholars, including: Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, Mike Pence, Al Gore, Ted Cruz, and Nancy Pelosi.
