2024 Seattle Q***r Film Festival planning has begun and we are seeking to add more fabulous team members for this year's festival.

We are happy to share our last Jury Award for the new category Best Sensory Experience Film 🌳And this one goes to 🏆 ✨🎥 THESE KIDS DON’T GET IT, MA (2024) by June Jung (she/her)
In this category we focused on films that incorporated explorations with performance, poetic approaches and other disciplines that take filmmaking into a more physical and sense activating experience. 💖🥳 🙌🏽Congratulations! We were super lucky and honored that June’s film had its World Premiere at 🏳️‍⚧️TRANS|Lations 2024.

Here are the final selection words gifted by Performance Artist, TRANS|Lations 2023 alum and Shorts Jury Member, Riven Ratanavanh  :

“THESE KIDS DON’T GET IT, MA. was the most heart-wrenching film for me. It made me feel seen to my very core, and I anticipate it would do the same for many trans first generation immigrants of the Asian diaspora.
From the use of visuals, sound, and editing; to the text that drives the film itself, it’s put together with such craft to skillfully make palpable griefs that are ongoing and often invisibilized.
At the same time, this film also felt like a home that I could temporarily visit, and wish I could continue to stay in for a long while.”

To celebrate the large number of genre films made by Trans+ artists 🏳️‍⚧️we got this year we created a new category: Trans+ Genre Short Film, this year the Jury Award goes to:  Dragonfly (2023) 🧚‍♀️🧚by Willow Skye-Biggs! A World Premiere ✨at TRANS|Lations 2024! This year we were also very lucky to show V***r Trails (2023) 🛸another incredible film by Willow that everyone should watch as well.

From the very first shot, this film wove a magical entrancing spell. In a minimal, yet expansive way, this film built an entire world that I could live in for hours, if not days, weeks, or longer. Exquisite in all aspects of film making, Dragonfly is an inspiring piece of art that expands the scope of worlds we can create through independent films.
