Hey GUO fans! We are on the map! Check out GroundUP Organics on the national map of food justice organizations led by people of color. There are some slight errors in info that we will correct, but it is wonderful to finally be recognized for all our hard work over the last 5 years.

An interactive map produced by activist Natasha Bowens charts farming and food justice initiatives owned and operated by people of color across the country.

This fall, GroundUP will be working in partnership with Seattle Tilth and Seattle Parks and recreation at the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands. The Soil and Wetland Restoration Project gives Southeast Seattle youth the tools they need to help their communities mitigate the effects of living in an environment facing such challenges. Coming out of the program, participating youth will: Understand the principals of environmental justice and be able to advocate for themselves and their community, Be able to contribute to their own food security by growing and preparing food using organic principals, Have helped to build uncontaminated garden beds and container gardens for low-income families and seniors in the community, Understand how to divert food and yard waste from the waste stream, turn it into compost, and use that compost to build healthy soils that contribute to water quality, Know how wetlands work and why they are important to a healthy ecosystem, and Have contributed to restoring wetlands at the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands. Learn about seasonal food production and meal planning and how to eat healthy year round. Incorporate food and enviromental justice as frameworks for understanding systemic and institutional racism and classism.
