Last night, the JCC Mid-Westchester celebrated the dedication of the Jewish Communal Fund Theater Entryway, a beautifully refurbished gateway to the Bendheim Performing Arts Center and a meaningful investment in arts, culture, and community connection.

The new theater entryway was made possible by the Jewish Communal Fund, in partnership with UJA-Federation of New York.

In addition to celebrating the theater’s new entrance, the evening was a tribute to the power of philanthropy to strengthen community, expand access to the arts, and create meaningful experiences and connections.

When Reuben, an 80-year-old actuary who lives by statistics, loses both his wife and her insurance money at the swimming pool, he’s forced into a reluctant partnership with his free-spirited granddaughter. Their bumbling investigation among eccentric pool regulars turns into a funny, heartfelt journey proving that while you can calculate almost anything, you can’t predict love or family.

Following the screening, the film director, Amichai Greenberg, will join us for a talkback with , local author, creator, entrepreneur, and Chutzpah Queen.

What an amazing evening of warmth, curiosity, and connection during our From Dumplings to Kreplach cross-cultural culinary event!

Stories were shared, traditions were exchanged, and friendships were made while we gathered around tables and learned how to make dumplings and kreplach together. A genuine sense of community emerged as people discovered many meaningful connections between Jewish and Asian experiences, finding common ground through family, culture, resilience, and food.

The evening reminded us that while our traditions may have different origins, they often carry similar values and hopes. We left inspired by the openness and enthusiasm of our participants, grateful for our partners, and energized by the powerful sense of belonging that took shape as we came together to learn and celebrate. Thank you to all who worked so hard to make this evening so special and thank you to UJA-Federation of New York for their generous support!

And, of course, the dumplings and kreplach were absolutely delicious!
