Lions Club of Savannah

Lions Club of Savannah We enable volunteers to serve in the City of Savannah, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace, and promote understanding. Presiding was E. W.

On May 11, 1922, a number of dedicated, community-minded men met at the Savannah Hotel to begin one of Lionism’s southernmost clubs. Savannah joined the growing list of cities appearing on the roster of the International Association of Lions. This organization was destined to become the greatest service group in the world. The Lions Club of Savannah is one of the oldest Lions Clubs in the country.

Lions Clubs International was founded 5 years earlier in Chicago Illinois by Melvin Jones. The Lions Club of Savannah has sponsored 8 other clubs in Georgia, who in turn, have collectively sponsored an additional 27 clubs, for a grand total of 37 clubs. On the evening of June 10, 1922, the Lions Club of Savannah received its official charter from representatives of the International Association of Lions from Chicago. In attendance were city officials, outstanding business men and women, heads of civic clubs and fraternal organizations, and civic and social leaders. Rosenthal, Belgian Consul and newly elected president of the Lions Club. From its inception, the club has attracted community leaders committed to making Savannah a better place to live and work. The club has had 10 members serve as District Governor, 2 lighthouse Presidents, 1 Camp for the Blind President, and numerous State and District Officers and committee persons during its nearly 90 years of service. No member has ever served more than 1 term as President of the Lions Club of Savannah.

The Savannah St. Patrick’s Day celebration, recognized as one of the largest in the United States, is fueled by the year-round volunteer efforts of the parade committee and the elected Grand Marshal. This role honors the religious and cultural significance of the “Feast of St. Patrick,” emphasizing its heritage over commercial aspects.

The dedication of these volunteers is essential to preserving this tradition, which has been a cornerstone of Savannah since 1824.

On behalf of the Lions Club of Savannah, it is a privilege to present the Lion Award to Marty Hogan as the 2026 St. Patrick’s Day Grand Marshal.

We are pleased to announce that Sanders Gifts and Home has been recognized as the Lions Club of Savannah Business of the Month for January.
We deeply appreciate their ongoing support, particularly their contributions to our Trees for Marines project. For any last-minute shoppers, they still have an excellent selection of Christmas gifts available in-store.

On December 4th, the Lions Club of Savannah prepared 18 "Jars of Joy" at our meeting for the Children's Cancer Center. These jars contain a teddy bear and games.
Following this, on December 9th, Roger, Lizzy, and Diane packed 53 bags for the Children's Hospital and 12 bags designated for the nurses' stations at Memorial Hospital.
This was an enjoyable project for the Lions Club of Savannah.

Thank you for your generous support of the Lions Club of Savannah.
We are excited to share that we have sold 701 Christmas trees in the last nine days! We now have only 49 trees remaining on our lot in Daffin Park.
To ensure all trees find a home, we have decided to reduce the price on the remaining inventory.
Please visit the lot soon to take advantage of this great deal before they are all gone.

Dear Lions Club Supporters,

We wanted to provide an update on our Christmas tree sale: our inventory is moving very quickly, and we anticipate being completely sold out by Monday. This will be a record year for our club!

To ensure you get a tree before they are gone, we highly recommend purchasing yours early.

If you are not ready to decorate immediately, please soak the base of the tree in a bucket of water. This will help keep your tree fresh throughout December. Leaving the tree on the lot, where it can dry out in the sun, is not advised.

Thank you for your support.
