We started our “Why We Show Up” series to share the heart behind the work we do at Crisis House. 💙
Because it’s about more than a job. It’s about believing in our mission, showing up for our community, and knowing that everyone deserves the opportunity to renew their lives.
To close out this series, we’re hearing from our Executive Director, Kelcie Parra, as she shares why she shows up and what makes this mission so meaningful to her:
“I show up at Crisis House because, quite simply, I don’t know how not to. I know what it feels like to need someone to show up. My own lived experience has shaped not only who I am, but what I believe we owe one another. When I see someone in crisis, I see a human being whose story is still being written. Someone with strength they may have forgotten, value they may no longer recognize, and a future they may not yet be able to imagine. I feel called to try. To honor their humanity, recognize their resilience, and walk alongside them until they can see in themselves what I already see: someone worthy of dignity, hope, and the chance to begin again. I show up because, once upon a time, someone showed up for me. Someone believed in a future for me that I couldn't yet see for myself. And if I can be even a small part of helping someone else find their way toward that future, what a privilege that is. Someone showed up for me. Now it's my turn.”
Thank you for following along and getting to know the people behind Crisis House. 💙
