When we say it takes a village, THIS is what we mean! 

Foster parents, grandparents, babies, teens finding their way, parents working toward reunification, social workers, CASA Volunteers, volunteers, Laundry Angels, donors, board members, community supporters, social media followers, staff, school aged kids, and more!!  

Our Village is made up of people with different stories, roles, and different reasons for being here.

Some come to our village looking for support. Others come ready to give it. And so many do both!  We think that is pretty incredible. 

That's what makes this place so special.

There's no one way to belong here.

Most kids don't have to think twice about where they'll sleep tonight. Or whether their favorite sweatshirt, shoes and stuffy will still be there tomorrow.

For kids entering foster care, those little certainties can disappear overnight.

Even though we can't change everything about that moment, we can make sure what comes next feels a little less scary.

Our Village Closet exists to step into these moments and help make a difference.

From the coast to the closet!

Kindness travels.

This we're sending SO MANY THANKS all the way to Ocean Cove Campground...for this wonderful donation of pull-ups and other goodies for our OVC youth and families.

One of the things we love most about our Village is that kindness comes from ALL walks of life and every corner of Sonoma County.

These aren't just pull-ups. They are one less expense for a caregiver, one less worry for a family, and one more way we can help children feel cared for.

The best part of donations like this is knowing you don't have to work in foster care to make a difference in the life of a child impacted by foster care.

There's a place for everyone in this VILLAGE!

HAY there… meet "Hay-Ley!" 😂💙

We spent Saturday morning at Heartizens ( Heartizens ) in Healdsburg stuffing, tying, braiding, glueing, sweating 🥵 laughing and getting slightly too attached to a scarecrow as we built OVC’s entry for the Healdsburg Scarecrow Festival!

Meet "Hay-Ley" : Single Foster Parent.

Her story? She got the call that a baby was coming into her care… and had TWO HOURS to prepare.

No car seat, diapers, clothes, crib or other supplies.

So, of course, Hay-Ley came to OVC. 💙

She’s a playful scarecrow with a very real story behind her: sometimes caregivers really do have only hours to prepare. And that’s part of why OVC is here.

Keep an eye out for Hay-Ley in Healdsburg!

OVC is held up by a whole lot of people who just keep showing up! 🩵

And WOW did they show up for our BIG WORK DAYS recently !!

Over three days, and over 150 hours of volunteer time, people hauled bins…moved storage…power washed…built furniture…painted…steam cleaned…organized…created a whole new meeting space…got us ready for fall + Halloween... AND finally (!!) helped get our beautiful mural on the wall. Eeeek!!!

This was about people saying, “What can I do?”

Because of our incredible volunteers, families are walking into a Resource Center that is clean, organized, welcoming and ready for them. There’s a brand-new space for people to gather and connect. Supplies are easier to find. Furniture is assembled, and storage is more functional.

And a beautiful new mural now greets our community with a message of hope and connection.

That’s what this community does. It holds OVC up so we can keep showing up for the youth and families we serve. Thank you. Forever. 🩵

These aren’t just numbers.

They’re moments of relief and dignity.
Moments when someone realizes, "our community cares and is here".

That is what you make possible when you donate, volunteer, share our work, fill a need, attend an event or simply keep showing up for Our Village Closet.

“You’re so resilient.”

We say it like it’s a compliment. But kids impacted by foster care shouldn’t have to become exceptionally good at surviving hard things.

This post is about why the numbers matter, and why connection matters even more.

Please save it. Please share it with someone who cares for, teaches, mentors or loves a young person. More of us need to understand what can sit underneath “resilience.”
