Foster Care Awareness Month may have ended, but foster care doesn't end on May 31.

Tonight, a child may enter care with almost nothing. A relative or teacher may step up unexpectedly and to keep siblings together. A reunifying parent may be working hard to bring their children home. A caregiver may be saying "yes" to a placement call but have no supplies ready.

And when those moments happen, our community has the opportunity to show up.

At Our Village Closet, we'll keep doing what we've always done: providing essentials, comfort, connection, and support to youth and families impacted by foster care.

If you've been thinking about getting involved, this is your reminder: foster care awareness isn't a month, it's a commitment. All year.

Follow. Share. Volunteer. Donate. Learn more about being a foster parent. Become a monthly supporter.

Help us make sure the kids and families impacted by foster care not only have the essentials they need, but also feel seen, welcomed, supported, and connected.

Because every child and family deserves a village. 💙

🧺 LOADS of love needed! 🧺

Our amazing OVC “Laundry Angels” help wash, sort, and refresh clothing/fabric donations so youth and families impacted by foster care can shop in a clean, welcoming, dignity-filled space. And we are SO GRATEFUL!!

Right now, we have over 20 laundry bins READY for pickup… and we’re hoping someone can help us lighten the load. 😉

This simple act makes a huge difference. Every washed hoodie, cozy pajama set, tiny onesie, and favorite pair of jeans becomes part of helping a child feel safe, cared for, and seen, and their caregivers supported.

💛 Pick up a bin during open hours

💛 Return them ready for the Resource Center

It’s one of the easiest ways to make a tangible impact for children and caregivers in our community.

Most people have heard the words foster care…

but very few truly understand what it means for a child.

Behind every placement is a child whose whole world changed overnight.

When our shelves are stocked, children entering care (and the ones caring for them) experience something powerful... choice, dignity, comfort, and the feeling that someone was ready for them.

If you’ve been wondering how to help youth in foster care locally... this is one tangible way.

We are so grateful to the Russian River Rotary for awarding Our Village Closet a grant to help provide brand-new shoes for youth at our Back to School Event! 👟❤️

For so many children and teens impacted by foster care, going back to school can feel overwhelming. Something as simple as a new pair of shoes can help restore confidence, dignity, and a sense of belonging.

Because of community partners like Russian River Rotary, hundreds of local youth will walk into the new school year feeling supported, prepared, and cared for.

Thank you for believing in these kids and helping us show up for them in such a meaningful way.
