While our team was working from the office in Malawi, we had a very special visitor.

Comfort stopped by the day before leaving for her first day of college.

Comfort has been part of our Education Is Power program for the past two years. After graduating from Chayamba Secondary School in central Malawi, she is now heading south to study nursing and midwifery.

We are so proud to celebrate students like Comfort as they achieve new firsts for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Having our team on the ground in Malawi means valuable opportunities to connect with both existing and potential partners who help strengthen and expand our work in the country.

Through our relationship with the Petaluma Rotary in California, we are working toward a Rotary International Global Grant.

The next step: build connections with Rotary clubs in Malawi.

During this visit, Chad and Beria had the opportunity to meet with the Rotary Club of Bwaila - Lilongwe and Rotary Club of Lilongwe Lingadzi.

Both clubs warmly welcomed our team into their member meetings, invited us to share more about The Sonder Project’s work, and gave us the chance to learn about the impactful initiatives they are already leading.

🇲🇼 Welcome to Malawi!

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing stories, updates, and moments from the ground as members of our U.S. team spend time with our Malawi team and partner communities.

We’ll be visiting students, spending time in communities where new wells were recently completed, assessing future water projects, and crossing our fingers for what we hope will be our first successful well drilling of the year.

Join us as we reconnect with the people and communities at the heart of this work.

💛 It’s a special day for The Sonder Project team: today is Beria’s birthday!

Beria is our Country Director in Malawi and was our very first team member in the country. From the beginning, she has helped shape and lead our work with compassion, strength, and grace.

We are incredibly grateful for her leadership, her heart for the communities we serve, and the way she continues to guide our growing Malawi team.

Please join us in wishing Beria a very happy birthday! 🎉

Partner Spotlight 🎉
We’re proud to share that the Addax & Oryx Foundation is supporting 50 students through secondary school in Malawi, helping them continue from Grade 9 through Grade 12 over the next four years.

These students were newly enrolled in our Education Is Power program this school year and recently attended their very first academic camp alongside their fellow sponsored students. It was a week filled with learning, connection, encouragement, and plenty of joy both in and out of the classroom. It was also the first time the Addax & Oryx students were able to gather in one place since they represent 13 different schools.

With this support, our Education Is Power program in Malawi now serves 149 students, each receiving the resources, mentorship, academic support, and life skills enrichment they need to continue their education and thrive.

Thank you, Addax & Oryx Foundation, for helping create lasting opportunity through education. 💛
