An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Friday for parts of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties. Older adults can be especially vulnerable, so please take extra care: stay in a cool place, dress lightly, limit time outdoors during peak heat, and check in on friends, family members, and neighbors.

Today is National Social Security Day — a good reminder to protect your personal information. It marks the anniversary of the Social Security Act, which President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law on August 14, 1935.

Scammers may pretend to be from Social Security, but the Social Security Administration will not threaten you, demand immediate payment, or ask you to pay with gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers. When in doubt, pause, verify, and talk to someone you trust.
