VTC Enterprises

VTC Enterprises VTC Enterprises is a Santa Maria based non-profit organization providing quality products and services

February 5, 2021
VTC Enterprises was founded in 1961 by a group of Santa Maria Valley parents seeking life skills services for their adult children with significant developmental disabilities. We offer a wide range of services to people with disabilities who desire training or assistance in areas related to employment and daily living. Activities take place at our main location in Santa Maria, our

satellite location in Lompoc, in various community settings and businesses, and at our Source America® contract locations on Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB) and Naval Base Ventura County. Services are individualized as each person helps design their own plan and goals, and great effort is put into understanding the preferences of those who are non-verbal or have difficulty communicating. We are accredited by CARF International (an independent nonprofit accreditor of health and human services agencies) and have earned 14 consecutive 3-Year Accreditations (the highest award possible), most recently in February 2020. VTC Enterprises is a proud AbilityOne™ partner agency, holding two of our four Federal Government contracts at VAFB for over 20 years.

It’s been an exciting week at VTC as we wrapped up one “season” of classes and excursions and kicked off a brand new one! 🎉
One of the best parts? The individuals we serve have the opportunity to choose how they spend their time—what classes to take, what activities to join, and what experiences matter most to them. And if you take one look at these smiles, you can see just how powerful that choice really is. 💛

We’re so proud to provide a program where voices are heard, preferences are honored, and every day is filled with connection, growth, and a whole lot of joy. Here’s to an amazing new season ahead! ✨

✨VTC’s Social Recreation Program is off to an AMAZING start! ✨
The energy, the smiles, the laughter—it’s everything we hoped for and more. Our participants are out in the community, staying active, building connections, and truly enjoying every moment ❤️

From exploring aquariums 🐠 and visiting local zoos 🐾, to fun-filled scavenger hunts around our beautiful Central Coast… there is always something exciting happening! We’ve been out enjoying community events, celebrating Earth Day 🌎, strolling through farmers markets 🌽🍓, attending college baseball games ⚾, and discovering new places together.

What makes this program so special isn’t just where we go—it’s the experiences we create. Friendships are growing, confidence is building, and every outing is an opportunity for connection, independence, and FUN.

We are incredibly proud of our staff for making these experiences meaningful and engaging, and so happy to see everyone participating having such a great time. This is what community inclusion looks like—and we are just getting started! 🙌

Stay tuned… there is so much more to come! 🎉

🐴✨ Our Social Rec Program was off to a “galloping” start this morning! ✨🐴. A huge thank you to Julie Yuhas for the incredible tour of the Cal Poly Equine Center—we are grateful for such a special experience!

We had an amazing visit to such a beautiful and welcoming place. Seeing the baby horses(foals!) was a huge highlight 🥹, and getting to spend time with Musty, the Cal Poly Mustang mascot, was such a fun surprise!

And then there was Oljana, the beautiful Norwegian Fjord who completely stole our hearts 💛 (We’re pretty sure VTC staff were actively working on a full plan to figure out how to fit her in the van and bring her back to VTC with them.) 😂🐴

We loved connecting with Julie and the Cal Poly students—everyone was so kind, patient, and happy to answer all of our questions. It made the experience even more special.

We can’t wait for more adventures like this—our Social Rec crew is just getting started! 💫

Today one of our excursion groups from Lompoc enjoyed a visit to the Monarch Butterfly Grove in Pismo Beach. Each year monarch butterflies migrate hundreds of miles to spend the winter here, with thousands gathering in the grove during the season.

Experiences like this support community engagement, environmental learning, and social connection, all while enjoying one of the Central Coast’s most beautiful natural spaces.

Participants in our Life Enrichment Opportunities (LEO) program absolutely LOVE cooking class — and honestly… we love it too. Just follow your nose down the hallway and you’ll know exactly what’s cooking! 👃😄 The kitchen is filled with laughter, teamwork, and smells so good they make everyone hungry. While the aromas grab our attention, the real recipe is confidence, independence, communication, and life skills growing one dish at a time.

If you ask our LEO Program (Life Enrichment Opportunities) participants where they want to go… Solvang and Buellton are almost always at the top of the list! From exploring the charming streets and shops, to visiting Mission Santa Inés ⛪and enjoying the beauty of the Santa Ynez Valley Botanic Garden 🌿🌸…there is SO much to experience in these incredible communities.

And then there’s Ostrichland… 🐦😳
We’re not saying ostriches and emus are intimidating…but when one runs toward you at full speed for food, you suddenly understand your place in the food chain.
They may look prehistoric.
They may stare into your soul.
They may try to eat the cup instead of the food…
…but we LOVE feeding them anyway. 😄
Because every visit brings laughter, courage, and unforgettable memories.

These photos capture just a glimpse of the joy, independence, and community connection our participants experience on these adventures.

❤️ The Santa Ynez Valley truly offers something for everyone — and we love making memories here!

Well… maybe the groundhog was onto something after all. 🐿️
We’re projected to get some rain and colder weather here in California.
I mean seriously — rain and a high of only 62 degrees today?!
That’s basically arctic conditions. 🥶
Central Coast life = dramatic weather complaints (it’s a lifestyle).

Despite these absolutely harrowing conditions, our LEO (Life Enrichment Opportunities) Department had an awesome week. Participants in photo classes have been learning so many new things, and as you can see in the pictures, the sports cards were a HUGE hit! 📸⚾🏈

Cooking class was also a favorite this week (as usual… because food wins every time 😋🍳).

That said, we’re still out and about — making the most of our beautiful Central Coast. 🌊🌿
Between community excursions and classes, there truly is something for everyone. With heaters on in the vans and in the classrooms, morale is high and fingers remain mostly unfrozen. 😄

A huge shout-out to our amazing staff who show up with positivity, creativity, and heart every single day — rain, cold, or “California winter” drama. We couldn’t do this without them! 💙👏

❄️🐿️ Happy Groundhog Day from VTC Enterprises — where we bravely face winter one chilly Central Coast morning at a time. 😎
Here on the Central Coast of California, we’re very resilient people. We can handle any kind of weather… right up until it drops below 65 degrees — then we are absolutely freezing and questioning all our life choices.

Let’s also talk about this morning.
A shocking.
Bone-chilling.
47 degrees.

That’s right — winter coats came out. Layers were added. Heated socks were considered (and maybe used). Living this close to the beach is beautiful, but those early mornings and post-sunset temps? Downright brutal.

Every year on February 2nd — Groundhog Day — a group of rodents across the country gather to do what meteorologists apparently couldn’t: predict the weather by standing outside and squinting.

Leading this highly scientific operation is Phil from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. His job? Look for his shadow. If he sees it, we get six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, we get an early spring. No pressure, Phil.

Well… Phil saw his shadow. AGAIN.
And frankly, we’d like to file a formal complaint.

Six more weeks of winter just will not work for us.

Okay okay — today’s high will be 75 degrees, but by Friday it’s supposed to drop to a high of ONLY 68 degrees.
HOW are we expected to survive that??

Phil, we are not impressed.
Phil, we respectfully disagree with your forecast.

📜 Fake Legal Disclaimer:
This statement does not reflect actual winter conditions, real suffering, or true hardship. No groundhogs were harmed in the making of this post. Heated socks are optional but encouraged. Any resemblance to real meteorological expertise is purely coincidental. Complaints may be submitted directly to Phil, who will probably ignore them and hide out from the cold with his California beanie on.
