LESS THAN 2 WEEKS TO GO

If you've been thinking about doing something about your stutter, perhaps now is the time.

In less than two weeks, The McGuire Programme will be holding its next intensive course in Dรผsseldorf, Germany.

Many people come to us after years of trying to cope on their own. They may have learned to hide their stutter, avoid certain situations, switch words, or simply accept limitations that have gradually become part of everyday life.

Our course offers a different approach.

Over three intensive days, you'll learn practical physical and psychological strategies for taking control of your speech. You'll work alongside experienced coaches who also stutter, gain support from people who understand exactly what you're going through, and discover that you're not alone.

You simply need to be willing to take the first step and give this your best shot.

For many people, their first McGuire Programme course becomes a turning point, it provides a new direction, a support network, and a practical plan for moving forward.

If what you've been doing isn't working, perhaps it's time to try something new.

DON'T FORGET THIS FEELING
Over three days, our new students have achieved things they may never have thought possible.

They've worked long, intensive hours on themselves.
They've spoken to more than 100 strangers.
They've challenged fears that may have been with them for years.
They've been inspired by others and encouraged by people who understand exactly what they're going through.
They've discovered they are not alone.

And they've stood on a soapbox and delivered a public speech in front of a crowd.

Take a moment to think about that.
Most people would never volunteer to do those things.

That's why one of the most important pieces of advice we give new members is simple: Don't forget this feeling.

The excitement.
The pride.
The confidence.
The possibilities.
Be a sponge.
Soak it all in.

Remember what you've achieved and what you've learned about yourself.

Because the course may be over, but the memories, lessons, and experiences from these three days can continue to drive you forward for months and years to come.

The first course is life-changing.
Not because it solves everything.
But because it gives you a new direction.

WEEK 1 โ€“ ENTERING THE REAL WORLD

The course is over, but the journey is only just beginning.

For many new members, Week 1 is where everything starts to come together. You're no longer sitting in a training room surrounded by coaches and fellow students. You're back with family, friends, colleagues, classmates, customers, and all the everyday speaking situations that make up your life.

The difference is that this time you're returning with a plan.

You have a new strategy for every encounter. You know what to do before speaking, during speaking, and afterwards. You have practical tools, a support network, and a clear direction.

This first week is about action. Calling your personal coach every day. Calling your course instructor. Calling your regional director. Meeting up with fellow course attendees to practise, share experiences, compare notes, and learn from one another. Attending daily warm-ups, support group meetings, and making plans for your next refresher course.

It is also a week of discovery.

You begin to find out how you operate in the real world with these new habits. You start noticing situations that create less tension than before. You discover that some conversations go better than expected. You realise that many of the things you feared are far more manageable when you have a strategy and the willingness to use it.

There will be successes. There will be surprises. There will be situations that don't go as planned. That's all part of the process.

What matters is that you're no longer waiting for confidence to arrive before taking action. You're taking action and allowing confidence to grow from the experience.

Week 1 is about building momentum and becoming accountable for your own progress. Every phone call, every contact, every disclosure, every conversation is an opportunity to strengthen the habits that began on the course.

The transformation started during the weekend.

Now it's time to build a life around it.

๐Ÿ† Winning an award is wonderful.

But the real success of My Stammer, My Story can't be measured by trophies.

The real success is that people who stammer were seen, heard, and understood by thousands of viewers.

The real success is that parents gained hope, employers gained understanding, and people who stammer realised they are not alone.

The real success is that conversations started.

From its BBC broadcast to discussions on social media and even reactions on Gogglebox Ireland, the documentary reached far beyond television screens. It helped make the invisible visible and gave the public a genuine insight into the reality of living with a stammer.

For over 30 years, The McGuire Programme has encouraged members to share their stories. Not because everyone needs to be on television, but because every story helps break down misconceptions and create understanding.

People need to hear our stories.

Read our latest blog to discover why the impact of My Stammer, My Story will continue long after the awards have been handed out.

๐Ÿ† Two international awards. One powerful message.

People need to hear our stories.

In recent weeks, two documentaries featuring members of The McGuire Programme have received international recognition:

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Finding My Voice won Best Documentary Feature Film at the Kodaikanal International Film Festival 2026.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช My Stammer, My Story won Best Single Documentary at the Celtic Media Festival 2026.

These awards are a testament to the courage of the people who shared their experiences openly and honestly.

For many people, stuttering is far more than what others see on the surface. Behind the blocks, repetitions, and struggles can be years of fear, avoidance, self-doubt, and missed opportunities.

That is why stories matter.

Every documentary, interview, podcast, article, and social media post helps someone understand that they are not alone. It helps families, friends, employers, and teachers better understand the realities of stuttering. Most importantly, it helps people discover that change is possible.

For more than 30 years, The McGuire Programme has grown because members were willing to speak up and share their experiences.

One story can change a life.

Congratulations to everyone involved in both productions and thank you to every member who continues to raise awareness by sharing their journey.

๐Ÿ† Award-Winning Storytelling. Real Lives. Real Courage.

We're absolutely delighted to see My Stammer, My Story win Best Single Documentary 2026 at the Celtic Media Festival.

This documentary shines a light on something millions of people experience but few truly understand. Through honesty, vulnerability, and courage, the contributors shared what it is really like to live with a stammer and, more importantly, what can happen when fear, avoidance, and self-doubt no longer dictate your choices.

A huge congratulations to Triplevision Productions and to the contributors who trusted the team with their stories. By speaking openly, they have helped educate, inspire, and encourage countless others.

Many people who stammer spend years believing they are alone. Documentaries like this remind us that they are not.

๐Ÿ“บ The documentary is currently available on BBC iPlayer. Unfortunately, BBC iPlayer is only available to viewers in the UK. If you're outside the UK, you may see the message:

"Sorry, BBC iPlayer isnโ€™t available in your region."

For our members around the world, we hope this recognition helps bring even greater awareness and understanding of stammering, and encourages more conversations about what is possible when people move beyond fear and avoidance.

Congratulations again to everyone involved in this outstanding achievement. ๐Ÿ‘

Sharing a post from Matt Wilton:

Thank you to every single one of you who attended our recent The McGuire Programme Manchester Course.

You all helped create and maintain such a positive atmosphere that the new students, graduates, and instructors knew we were in safe hands throughout.

With around 40 past and present coaches attending the course, we were spoilt for choice when it came to supporting new
students and graduates who needed a little extra help. Thatโ€™s not even including all of the graduates who led by example, followed directions, and helped set the standard for the newer students. I don't think I saw a phone out once:-)

It has taken me 28 years to instruct my first course in the UK - partly because the RD role is so demanding, but also because of the fatigue, tiredness, and brain fog that I live with as a result of fibromyalgia. I honestly didn't think I would be capable of doing it. I know there were moments when I lost my train of thought or forgot what I was saying, but for my first time instructing, I feel I did a pretty good job.

Having the opportunity to instruct has taken a bit of the monkey off my back, and it was a privilege to help lead the course alongside the amazingly supportive Ashley Guerin.

A special thank you also to Zabaida Bi, who stepped in and used all of her experience to ensure the course ran smoothly behind the scenes.

I'd also like to thank Dave McGuire, who has always supported me in running our region and leads our programme with such passion, and my primary coach, Martin Coombs, who is sadly no longer with us.

Without Martin's straightforward guidance, support, motivation, and direct coaching, I would never have come as far as I have with my own speech. Martin always told me that one day I would instruct a course.

Well, Martin - you got your wish eventually. I've finally done one. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We are incredibly fortunate to have such a fantastic team of coaches and graduates, all working together as one.

Thank you again for attending and for making this course so special to me and, most importantly, to the eight new students who were given the opportunity to take control of their stutter and move closer to becoming the best version of themselves.
