The next free Nonprofits Workshop is September 16 at ! Join us to discuss the resources and opportunities available to nonprofit organizations in Erie County, and how local leaders can make better use of them.

Moderated by Matt Poyle of Lorain County Community College, this panel will bring together leaders with diverse backgrounds and experiences for a practical conversation focused on strengthening Erie County's nonprofit community.

Panelists will discuss resources available to nonprofit organizations, opportunities for collaboration and partnership, funding and organizational support, community connections, and ways nonprofit leaders can better navigate the local ecosystem.

The conversation will focus not only on what resources exist, but also on how nonprofit leaders can access them, build stronger relationships, identify new opportunities, and connect with organizations and individuals who can help advance their missions. We will also discuss lessons learned through leadership.

Attendees will leave with a better understanding of the resources available throughout Erie County, potential partners and connections, and practical ideas they can bring back to their organizations.

Erie County Community Foundation initiatives focus on fostering community growth, supporting education, and enhancing the quality of life for residents. Through grant stories, the Community Foundation showcases the real-world impact of its funding, highlighting successful projects that make a lasting difference in the lives of individuals and the broader community.

Campbell Christian Community Center's Thrive: Teen Leadership and Mentoring Program provides students in grades 7–12 with a safe, supportive environment where they can develop leadership skills, receive academic support, build meaningful relationships with mentors, and explore future career opportunities. The program also encourages community engagement through volunteer service, mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences.

This year, Thrive engaged 30 local teens through weekly programming that included mentorship, shared meals, educational enrichment, leadership development, and career exploration. Participants contributed more than 875 volunteer hours, gained valuable workplace experience through local business partnerships, and celebrated significant achievements, including three students earning the OhioMeansJobs Readiness Seal and one participant receiving the Leadership Erie County Youth Award. The Six Flags scholarships at Erie County Community Foundation support recent high school graduates, current college students, and full-time or part-time maintenance associates of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation who have worked for the company for at least 12 months. Six Flags Associate Scholarship:
Supports recent high school graduates or college students with a minimum 2.5 GPA and a current full-time associate of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, or spouse/child of a current full-time associate and in good standing. Applicant must be enrolled in a degreed program attending an accredited college or university (academic institution) in the continental United States. Preference will be given to those who demonstrate strong community service and leadership. Financial need is also a consideration. Scholarships may be renewed for up to three additional years at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee.

Six Flags RAAM Scholarship Bowling Green State University:
Supports any college student currently enrolled in Bowling Green State University's Resort and Attraction Management (RAAM) Program and who has worked at a Six Flags Entertainment Corporation location in the past 12 months. Preference will be given to college juniors and seniors. Financial need is also a consideration. Scholarships may be renewed at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee.

Six Flags Lamond Jasper Maintenance Scholarship:
Supports current full-time or part-time maintenance associates of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation who have worked for the company for at least 12 months. The associate must be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED) in good standing with Six Flags. The applicant must also be enrolled in a non-profit vocational training or apprenticeship program in the continental United States with focus on a trade or maintenance role at the time of application and financial disbursement. Programs that are paid through other scholarships, grants, or government programs are not eligible.

Erie County Community Foundation's initiatives focus on fostering community growth, supporting education, and enhancing the quality of life for residents. Through grant stories, the Community Foundation showcases the real-world impact of its funding, highlighting successful projects that make a lasting difference in the lives of individuals and the broader community.

Kelleys Island Schools Field Station expanded access to hands-on STEM and environmental education by welcoming 200 Erie County students to its Field Station programming on Kelleys Island!

Through interactive field experiences focused on ecology, geology, wildlife, water quality, and conservation, students explored Lake Erie’s ecosystem while building scientific inquiry, observation, and critical thinking skills.

By helping offset transportation costs, the program made island-based environmental education more accessible to mainland schools and provided students with opportunities to engage directly with nature, research, and conservation science.

Teachers reported high student engagement and shared that these real-world learning experiences strengthened classroom instruction while inspiring curiosity and deeper interest in science and environmental stewardship.
