The Sands Point Preserve on the original Guggenheim Estate embodies the grandeur and opulence that define the Gold Coast period of the early 20th century, when prominent American families built great mansions on large estates as summer retreats along the Long Island Sound. ana Learning Center, is owned by Nassau County, NY, and is maintained and operated by the Sands Point Preserve Conservancy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, formerly the Friends of the Sands Point Preserve. The Conservancy provides year-round educational and cultural programs, seasonal celebrations, mansion tours, fitness activities as well as private/corporate event services and film/TV location facilities.

Two dates remain this summer for our Historical Walking Tours: Wednesdays, July 1 and August 12 at 6pm.

Join us for a walk from Castle Gould, to the freshwater pond, and ending in the beautiful rooms of Hempstead House. Discover the history of the estate from the Goulds to the Guggenheims and beyond.

This is an energetic walking tour involving uneven terrain, hills, and stairs. Close-toed walking shoes are recommended.

We are thrilled to host another book drive for Book Fairies NY! Book Fairies is a local non-profit that collects books and redistributes them to under-resourced communities across Long Island and NYC. By flooding "book deserts" with high-quality reading materials, they remove financial barriers and give every child an equitable opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive through the joy of book ownership.

You can help by dropping off new and gently used books in the Book Fairies bin, located just behind the gatehouse! Tell the gate attendant you are dropping off and they will direct you. Wed – Sun from 9am – 7pm.

We invite you to step away from the screen and join certified Ecotherapy guide Linda Lombardo for a restorative summer walk. We'll slow down and notice what's in motion around us, connecting with the natural world rather than simply walking through it.

We'll visit the turtles at the pond, notice the lush trees that are a thousand shades of green, and of course, say hello to the Goatbusters. All walks end with a tea ceremony with healthy snacks.

Join us THIS Saturday (June 13) at 10:30am to welcome back 4 of our beloved Goatbusters!

The rain will be over and the sun will be shining for a beautiful day out in nature. We will have kid-friendly activities and goat-themed items for sale. Our goats will arrive from their home upstate with Green Goats Rhinebeck and will come hungry and ready to combat our forest’s invasive species. Help us welcome them back to the Preserve!

Falaise tours open for the season this Friday, June 12!

This 1923 French-Norman style mansion boasts cobblestone walkways, medieval towers and stunning waterfront views. Inside, explore a treasure trove of 16th-century antiques, Renaissance masterpieces, and modern art collected from the family’s global travels. The home once belonged to Harry Guggenheim and his wives Caroline Morton and later, Alicia Patterson.
