2021 – Medical Equipment for Campana Municipal Hospital in Argentina

The Argentina Hospital Equipment project provides the Campana Municipal Hospital with an ultrasound machine. This will be a global grant project in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Campana with matching grants from the Rotary Districts and Rotary Foundation. The project meets Rotary’s focus on disease prevention and treatment, as well as maternal and child health.

At present, the Campana Municipal Hospital has an old ultrasound machine with difficulties to obtain spare parts. The hospital serves the population in Campana of about 100,000 habitants as well as those in surrounding cities such as Zarate, Capilla del Senor and Cardales. The additional and new ultrasound machine will reduce wait time, which is currently at well over a month for non-emergency cases. The beneficiaries are mainly patients with low economic means and have no health insurance. About 18,000 patients are catered to each month at this hospital with a monthly average of 1,000 ultrasound studies. The project is expected to be completed during the second quarter of 2022.

San Marino Rotary had worked successfully with Campana Rotary in 2018/9 on a global grant project to supply heavy duty farm equipment to the Agriculture Education Secondary School in Campana.

City Manager, Marcella Marlowe, was honored to join the ranks of the Rotary Club of San Marino on November 4.

Dr. Marlowe's membership was sponsored by City Council members and Rotary Club representatives, Steve Talt and Steven Huang. Police Chief, John Incontro, and Fire Chief, Mario Rueda are also members of the Rotary Club.

JOINT MEETING: SGV NEW GEN & SAN MARINO CLUBS

On Thursday evening, August 26, the San Gabriel Valley New Gen Club held its first joint meeting social with the nearby San Marino Club at Ogopogo Brewing in San Gabriel.

New Gen and San Marino presidents, Justin Chan and J P Maingay, respectively, welcomed all...asked each to introduce themselves and asked each to identify their position in their club and ...the best meal they ever had!

The New Gen club, with 17 active members, had about 8 members there, and the San Marino Club, with 107 active members, had some 47 members attend. Also attending were a few non-Rotarians who are considering membership, along with a few spouses with children.

The New Gen Club wishes now to collaborate with the San Marino Club on CORAZON Build, in Mexico, in the spring.
The New Gen’s big fundraiser is to man/woman the fireworks stand during the week before the 4th of July, in the Smart-n-Final parking lot on Main Street in Alhambra. They raise $35k from the 7 days they operate their booth.

San Marino’s fundraiser, reported in a previous edition of the Highlighter, held its Classic Car show fundraiser on August 22, and anticipate making over $100,000 for its Charities’ programs.
A good, no, great time was held by all!

Congratulations to the San Marino Motor Classic, Aaron Weiss had made another successful event last on Aug. 22, 2021.

The AFAS Art Exposition & Sale is new program this year. You will find many great art pieces of automobiles. A few of the art exhibitors are car designers and artists who have been teaching in the Transportation Design Department at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena for more then 30 years. They are experts in their field. If you are interested, you will learn a lot from them. Please join San Marino Motor Classic next year!
