🔥 Something has to give Friday night.

Murrieta Valley enters this matchup in unfamiliar territory at 0-2, but the Nighthawks have too much talent to count out. Ty Isaia and Buck Bachmeier will lead the passing attack, with a loaded group of weapons on the outside featuring senior Caden Brown, Kayden Borden, Mickey Medina, and Jayden Gelin.

On the ground, expect Tahj Stephens and Ryder Lopez to carry the load. Defensively, Noah Davis, Arieon Hicks, and Dillon Walker headline a unit that will have its hands full trying to slow down an explosive Cajon offense.

🟢 CAJON IS COMING IN LOOKING TO MAKE A STATEMENT.

Ultra Talented D1 prospect Marcus Washington has been putting up video-game numbers, accounting for 819 total yards through just TWO games. He can hurt defenses through the air or with his legs, making him one of the biggest X-factors in the Inland Empire.

And Cajon isn’t one-dimensional.

💨 Maleek Miley is already averaging 114 rushing yards per game, while EJ Carstafhnur and Glen Lyles give Washington dangerous options in the passing game.

Defensively, keep an eye on Kaeleb Williams and Uziah Todd, along with a talented group of young playmakers looking to make their presence felt.

🔥 NEXT GENERATION 7v7 SAN DIEGO — GAME OF THE WEEK 🔥🏈

RANCHO BERNARDO (2-0) 🆚 TORREY PINES (2-0)

A year ago, these two programs went toe-to-toe in a battle that came down to the wire, with Rancho Bernardo escaping with a 17-13 victory. Now the Broncos and Falcons meet again except this time both teams enter 2-0, making Friday night one of the biggest early-season matchups in San Diego.

🔵 RANCHO BERNARDO — PLAYMAKERS EVERYWHERE

The Broncos are powered by 4-star dual-threat QB Gaige Weddle, and he may be the biggest X-factor on the field. Weddle can take over a game with his arm and legs and his ability to make an impact on both offense and defense gives Rancho Bernardo another dimension.

Behind him is RB Aidan Farrell, who is already putting together All-League caliber numbers. If the Broncos establish Farrell on the ground and allow Weddle to attack in space, this offense can become extremely difficult to contain.

But keep your eyes on the other side of the ball. OLB Rio Bersamira, LB Gavin Stewart and DT Carson Bischoff give Rancho Bernardo three impact defenders capable of changing the momentum with one play.

🟤 TORREY PINES — CAN THE FALCONS ANSWER?

The Falcons have plenty of firepower of their own.

Pro-style QB Blake Miller commands the Torrey Pines offense and will have several weapons at his disposal. Senior RB Jacob Kreiss provides the punch on the ground, while Reece Goldberger, Logan Bonneau and Logan Miller give Miller multiple options to attack the Broncos through the air.

LB Henry Kendall will be counted on to slow down Rancho Bernardo’s explosive attack, while G Corde Keeler could play a huge role up front against a physical Broncos defensive front.

🏈🔥 NEXT GENERATION 7v7 — INLAND EMPIRE WEEK 2 TAKES

Two weeks down, and the Inland Empire high school football picture is already starting to get interesting. Here’s what we learned from Week 2:

🔵 NORCO IS FOR REAL
This team is a force to be reckoned with and may have positioned themselves as a Top 3 team in the Inland Empire.

🟢 MURRIETA MESA IS MAKING NOISE
A big win over Etiwanda has everyone paying attention. The new direction is in full swing. The question is whether the Rams can keep the momentum rolling.

🔷 CHAPARRAL FINDING WAYS TO WIN
Despite battling injuries, the Pumas continue to get it done. If they can get healthy, they could be positioned for a big playoff push.

🔴 CENTENNIAL IS STILL CENTENNIAL
A one-point loss to Trinity League power Santa Margarita doesn’t change our outlook. The Huskies showed why they belong in the conversation as possibly the #1 public school in America. A state championship run is still very much in play.

🟠 SAN JACINTO IS 2-0
The Tigers are off to an undefeated start and could be ready to take things to another level. Keep an eye on San Jacinto as the season progresses.

🏆 THE BIGGEST TAKEAWAY?

The next few weeks are going to tell us A LOT.

The Inland Empire playoff picture is beginning to take shape, but there is still plenty of football left to determine who separates themselves from the pack.

Week 2 gave us some answers… but it may have created even more questions. 👀🔥 San Diego High School Football is shaping up to be WIDE OPEN this season.

🟣 CARLSBAD MAKES A STATEMENT
Carlsbad just put in a serious bid for the #1 team in San Diego after a dominant Week 2 performance over Oceanside. The Lancers are looking dangerous.

🔴 DON’T COUNT OUT CATHEDRAL CATHOLIC
Despite falling to Trinity League powerhouse Orange Lutheran, Cathedral Catholic showed they still have the talent and firepower to make another run at the Open Division Championship.

🔵 DEL NORTE IS IN THE MIX
A big win over St. Augustine puts Del Norte squarely in the conversation and gives the Nighthawks some serious momentum towards making a push for seeding in Division 1 playoffs.

🐾 MISSION HILLS HAS WEAPONS
Mission Hills may have one of the best QB-to-WR combinations in the county with Furian Inferrera throwing to Brayden Roberson and Ryan Mackenzie. That trio is going to be a problem.

🏆 THE PLAYOFF RACE IS WIDE OPEN
Right now, Cathedral Catholic, Carlsbad and Mission Hills appear to have positioned themselves firmly among San Diego’s top teams.

After that? Anything can happen.

That fourth Open Division spot is up for grabs, and the seeding throughout the rest of the divisions could change every week.

Two loaded offenses. Elite playmakers everywhere. This one has all the makings of a SHOWDOWN in Corona. 🏈💨

🔵 SANTA MARGARITA

The Eagles’ passing attack is led by QB Fletch Palmer, who is coming off a 242-yard, 2-touchdown performance.

⭐ Freshman WR Kiyan Callis showed why he’s one of the young names to watch, exploding for:

And when Santa Margarita goes to the ground, elite RB Jaion Smith gives the Eagles another weapon defenses have to account for.

The Huskies counter with elite QB Jaden Jefferson, fresh off a nearly 300-yard, 2-touchdown performance.

CARLSBAD HS vs. OCEANSIDE HS

It’s rare for the same program to earn back-to-back Game of the Week selections, but Oceanside is right back in the spotlight.

This one has all the ingredients for a physical battle with elite running backs, big-time playmakers, and a matchup that could be decided in the trenches.

🔥 CARLSBAD LANCERS

Darian Webb is coming off a huge performance:
171 Rushing Yards
2 Touchdowns

Carlsbad will look to establish Webb on the ground while getting elite playmaker Travis Jeffrey opportunities to make plays on the outside.

🏴‍☠️ OCEANSIDE PIRATES

Oceanside may have the advantage where games are often won and that’s up front. The Pirates feature one of the best offensive lines in San Diego County, led by Michigan commit Lincoln Mageo.

The first week of action delivered big performances, early surprises, and plenty of reasons to be excited about the season ahead.

Corona Centennial continues to set the standard 👑 with Quentin Hale making a strong case as the #1 receiver in California.

Rancho Cucamonga looks like a legitimate championship contender.

Chaparral HS will need to battle through injuries and stay competitive until key players return.

Great Oak has a talented group of outside playmakers ready to make an impact for Trent Lux.

Etiwanda proved they’re ready to compete with the best in the Inland Empire.

There’s still a long way to go, but Week 1 already gave us plenty to talk about.

🔥 Oceanside HS can be an OPEN TEAM contender.

🔥 Point Loma may be a sleeper in the Western Division.

Week 1 brings us a heavyweight matchup as Chaparral travels to Mission Viejo for the Next Generation 7v7 Passing League Inland Empire Game of the Week.

This one has all the ingredients for a Friday night classic.

💥 THIS GAME WILL BE WON IN THE TRENCHES.

Both programs bring size, physicality and athleticism up front. Whichever offensive line can control the line of scrimmage, establish the run and keep its quarterback clean will have a major advantage. On the other side, expect both defensive fronts to attack, create pressure and make every yard difficult.

But when the ball goes in the air, that’s when things could get REALLY interesting.

⚡ ELITE RECEIVERS vs. ELITE DEFENSIVE BACKS.

Chaparral and Mission Viejo both feature athletes capable of changing the game on one play. The battles on the outside will be must-see football — speed against speed, technique against technique and playmakers competing for every 50/50 ball.

WEEK 1: OCEANSIDE PIRATES vs. GRANITE HILLS EAGLES

The 2026 San Diego high school football season kicks off with a big-time matchup as Next Generation 7v7 Passing League San Diego heads to Pirates Cove for our Game of the Week!

The Oceanside Pirates welcome the Granite Hills Eagles on Friday night in a matchup featuring two programs looking to make an immediate statement. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 PM on Friday, August 21 at Oceanside High School. (MaxPreps.com)

🟢 OCEANSIDE PIRATES

Oceanside gets the opportunity to open the season in front of its home crowd and defend Pirates Cove. The Pirates bring athleticism, speed and plenty of motivation into Week 1 as they look to start the 2026 season with a signature victory.

🔵 GRANITE HILLS EAGLES

Granite Hills comes into the season with championship expectations and senior quarterback Zachary Benitez back leading the offense. Benitez is coming off a huge 2025 performance against Oceanside in which he completed 38 passes, a mark recognized among California’s returning single-game record performances. (Cal-Hi Sports)

🔥 THE REMATCH

These programs are very familiar with each other. Granite Hills defeated Oceanside 45-29 in last season’s meeting, giving the Pirates even more motivation heading into Friday night’s showdown. (Blast Athletics)
