Meet the 2026 AAUW-SCCB Scholarship Recipients

Be sure to mark your calendars for Saturday, May 16, and join us for what many consider one of the event highlights of the year—meeting our wonderful scholarship recipients from San Clemente High School, San Juan Hills High School and Saddleback College.

This year, six scholarships were awarded to graduating high school girls and four scholarships were awarded to women of Saddleback College going on to four-year colleges or universities. Each were interviewed by their respective Scholarship Committee team members and ALL have compelling stories to share with us; stories of triumph, adversity and success.

Join us for Creating Connections, our next general meeting on Friday, April 17 at the VIP Lounge, upstairs at the San Clemente Outlets. Doors open at 12:30pm for a light lunch; program starts at 1pm.

We will be exploring the shared experiences that unite us and discovering new pathways to support and uplift one another and AAUW.

March 20th Meeting – Women’s History Month





Did you know the windshield wiper was invented by a woman? And she never profited from it. It was not picked up by anyone at the time - "it would be too distracting to the driver and cause accidents" - so until a 2nd woman patented the "Electric Storm Windshield Cleaner" was it accepted. This woman also never made any money from her invention.

Come celebrate Women’s History Month on Friday, March 20 and contribute to “Women’s Herstory” with a fun, interactive way to make trivia about “firsts for women” main stream information!

Join presenter (and AAUW-SCCB member) Dr. Kimberly Salter and learn some ‘new’ women’s firsts; bring some of your own to share and perhaps enlighten others or, better yet, stump the presenter! Prizes for everyone who attends.

“Hers for the Taking” author, Tracey Newell (third from right), shared interesting, compelling and often funny stories of her rise to CEO and Board Member with nearly 50 AAUW-SCCB members and guests at our January meeting.

Shown here with six college-bound students from San Clemente High School, Tracey took time to answer their questions and sign her book. The girls were able to join our meeting—on a school day—thanks to the support and chaperoning from the Boys & Girls Club of San Clemente. Program Committee Member and Boys & Girls Club Board Member, Rita Thiet Scudder (on right), worked with Tracey as a colleague at Cisco Systems, and donated the books for the girls.

Our AAUW Branch is participating in the 10th Annual Shopping Extravaganza at the San Clemente Outlets on October 12, 2024 ( 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.) to raise money for scholarships. Cost is $40 per person plus a $2.99 service fee. For every ticket we sell, $25 comes back to our branch. Lunch is included, discounted sales in the stores and ticket drawing for free gifts are part of the ticket price.
