Youth Action Project

Youth Action Project Empowering Inland Empire youth through education and workforce development opportunities. In other words, we want to stop problems before they start.

The Youth Action Project is a non-profit organization that works to empower San Bernardinoโ€™s youth to develop the skills and habits needed to experience economic and social success. Our work is intended to bring positive change by helping local youth graduate from high school, complete college or vocational training, develop work skills, and make responsible choices. If we enable our youth to beco

me educated, gainfully employed, responsible community members, we believe we can reduce the prevalence of crime, drugs, teenage pregnancy and poverty in our community. Statistics show that teens who participate in positive youth development activities graduate from high school and go on to college at dramatically higher rates than teens who donโ€™t. Ultimately, our work benefits not only the youth, but the community as a whole. With a better-prepared workforce, our community can be a more desirable place for companies to locate, and local businesses can be more successful.

Allanhi began her ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ-๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ ๐ž๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฒ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ through the our Work Experience (WEx) program in partnership with the Akoma Unity Center in San Bernardino, an opportunity made possible by the Youth Action Project: Youth Forward Program. Entering the program with no prior work experience, Allanhi embraced the opportunity to learn, grow, and explore her professional interests.

Throughout her work experience, Allanhi demonstrated meaningful personal and professional growth. She developed stronger interpersonal skills, becoming more outgoing and confident in professional settings. Over time, she learned how to communicate more effectively and assertively, particularly while connecting with students and her community served at Akoma. These experiences helped her build confidence in her voice and abilities when working with others.

In addition to personal growth, Allanhi gained valuable, hands-on workplace skills. She learned how to create flyers from scratch and developed clear, engaging messaging for community members, strengthening her written communication and creative skills. These practical tasks allowed her to better understand workplace expectations and apply her learning in real-world situations.

By the end of the experience, Allanhi shared that she would highly recommend the Paid Work Experience program to future participants. She noted that WEx is especially helpful in determining whether a specific career pathway aligns with an individualโ€™s interests. Allanhi also expressed that the experience provided her with important life and workplace lessons that will support her future goals.

Overall, Allanhiโ€™s participation in the program positively contributed to her career exploration, confidence, and professional development, marking a strong and successful start to her employment journey.
