Cedars has been serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1919. Our success stems from how we we work together with the people we serve - - as individuals deserving of respect, personal choice, and the chance to develop interests, skills, and independence.

There’s a feeling of family among the approximately 100 people served at Cedars community based residences,

including Generoso Pope, Jr. Our unique and innovative day programs serve over 150 individuals each weekday. Off-hours are spent enjoying music, art, sports, nature and, above all, friendship.

Cedars is known for its life affirming, loving environment in which personal accomplishments are celebrated, individual skills are recognized and participants are able to live creative, productive and joyous lives. "...individuals here are people with capabilities, not disabilities."

WHAT A CELEBRATION IT WAS! 🎉

The 60's music and outfits were on point, and the dancing was off the charts! Textile Arts Collaborative dancers, choreographed by instructor Alla, dancers kicked things off, and Miss Tara from Love2Dance Novato brought it home!

Cedars own talented DJ team, DJ Pikameow & DJ Destiny, kept the 60's groove spinning all morning. And when clients needed a break from dancing, there was no shortage of things to do: face painting, skee ball, a photo booth, peace sign necklace making, tie-dye handkerchief decorating, temporary tattoos, and the ever-popular coloring pages.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED TO SUPPORT SHAKE, RATTLE & DANCE! We raised over $271,000, and every dollar goes directly to support Cedars programs & services! We especially want to recognize Kylie's Kindness match for the incredible $100,000 matching gift, which made this fundraiser such a record-breaking success!

🐾 "Pet Parade" Opening Night — Bring Your Dog! 🐾

Join us for the opening of Pet Parade, our popular exhibit — now in its 5th year — featuring Cedars artist renditions of Marin Humane adopted pets, and celebrate with a live Pet Parade & Dog Mingle!

Cedars x Marin Humane x San Anselmo — Friday, September 11, 6–8 pm at Artist Within – A Cedars Gallery, 603 San Anselmo Ave, San Anselmo.

Arrive by 6:15 pm and we'll start with some optional pup decorating (for the dogs who'll tolerate it 😄), then parade around the corner to Magnolia Street for our Pet Parade & Dog Mingle at 6:30. Little prizes, lots of fun — bring your best-behaved good boy or girl and join in! (Dogs only for the parade, please — pups on their best behavior!) We should be done by 7:15 pm.

📍 Heads up: it's also "Live on the Avenue" in San Anselmo that night — downtown streets close at 4:30 pm, and it'll be lively with foot traffic, so plan your arrival accordingly.

Assembly Concurrent Resolution (ACR) 232 has passed the California Assembly and Senate!

Thanks to the leadership of Assemblymember John Harabedian and co-author Senator Eloise Gómez Reyes, the State Legislature is officially declaring September 13-19, 2026 as Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week.

Direct support professionals show up every single day with compassion and dedication to Californians with disabilities and their families. This Resolution honors their skilled work and their vital role in our communities.

A huge thank you to all of the dedicated DSPs across California. We are so grateful to the Legislature for honoring your important work.

Cynthia Adams' "Cosmos" is the featured artwork for August in our 2026 Cedars and Marin Art & Garden Center calendar.

Cynthia has been making her joyful art at Cedars since 1996. Her drawings and paintings have bold, clean compositions, clear outlines, and bright, cheerful colors. Her favorite subjects are flowers, singers, animals, and anything Disney. When she finishes a new piece, she shows it to everyone she can, sharing her delight in her own creativity.

While visiting the garden, Cynthia enjoyed smelling the roses!
