Cedars Life

Cedars Life Supporting individuals with developmental disabilities since 1919. campus in Ross and our ten group homes in Novato and San Rafael.

Cedars has been serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1919. Our success stems from how we we work together with the people we serve - - as individuals deserving of respect, personal choice, and the chance to develop interests, skills, and independence.

There’s a feeling of family among the approximately 100 people served at Cedars community based residences,

including Generoso Pope, Jr. Our unique and innovative day programs serve over 150 individuals each weekday. Off-hours are spent enjoying music, art, sports, nature and, above all, friendship.

Cedars is known for its life affirming, loving environment in which personal accomplishments are celebrated, individual skills are recognized and participants are able to live creative, productive and joyous lives. "...individuals here are people with capabilities, not disabilities."

Cody Rahn's "Macro Lily Pads" is the featured artwork for May in our 2026 Cedars and Marin Art & Garden Center calendar.

Cody enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere in the garden, and he was inspired to create this work after hearing the frogs on the lily pads!

An artist at Cedars Textile Arts Collaborative for seven years, Cody focuses mostly on the expressive use of colored pencil in working to create detailed and intimate small-scale drawings. In recent explorations with acrylic paint, Cody has developed exuberant, brightly colored paintings that utilize a loose brushstroke to achieve an almost abstract quality.

What does advocacy look like? It looks like Bridget, Mariana, Marian, Brian, and Anne. πŸ‘‡

Last Friday, members of the Cedars community β€” clients, family members, board members, co-executive directors, and staff β€” came together at the Golden Gate Regional Center legislative breakfasts to speak directly to elected officials at a critical moment: the finalization of California's state budget.

We are so proud of the five members of our community who stood up and spoke: clients Bridget and Mariana, Marian (Bridget's mom), board member Brian Colbert, and Anne Trombo (Cedars client Lucy's sister). Each of them brought their voice, their story, and their conviction to the room β€” speaking to the promise of the Lanterman Act and the very real impact that budget cuts have on people with developmental disabilities and their families. Anne was the event's keynote speaker.

It takes courage to speak truth to power. And the rest of our community showed up to listen, to support, and to stand alongside them.

To Bridget, Mariana, Marian, Brian, and Anne β€” thank you. You reminded all of us why this work matters and what's possible when our community raises its voice together.

The work continues β€” and we are stronger together. πŸ’™

This week is National Volunteer Appreciation Week, and each day we're shining a light on the incredible people who show up for our Cedars community.🧑

Today we celebrate the volunteers who come to our residential homes β€” and they don't just visit, they show up. They roll up their sleeves to make pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving. They craft flower crowns just for the joy of it. They take our residents on walks and sit with them, laugh with them, and become a true part of their lives.🌟

The happiness they bring cannot be overstated.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 🧑

Katie Buster's "Garden Mandala #2" is the featured artwork for April in our 2026 Cedars and Marin Art & Garden Center calendar.

An artist at Cedars Fine Art Studios and a Cedars resident, Katie was inspired by all the colors in the garden when she was making this painting.

In her art-making, Katie is a perfectionist with a strong design sense. She favors intricate geometric patterns, flat bright colors, and clean lines. Katie has a bubbly personality and loves to joke and laugh.
