Fostering is often seen as a once-in-a-lifetime commitment, but what happens when those relationships come around again? This family's experience reveals the beauty of reuniting with children they once fostered, highlighting that love often intertwines with complex realities. A phone call changed everything, reigniting a bond that felt divinely guided. This story challenges the notion that foster care is linear or definitive; it can be a cyclical journey of connection and caregiving. May we remember that opening our homes isn't just about a moment; it's about the lasting impact we can have on each other's lives, regardless of time apart. Stay open to the unexpected, and trust that your heart's embrace can create new beginnings for those in need.

Foster care often challenges the assumptions we have about family dynamics and the act of welcoming others into our homes. It's easy to imagine that such experiences only bring hardship. However, hearing firsthand from a bio daughter sheds light on the profound beauty and positivity that can emerge from these journeys. Her insights remind us that opening your home can foster resilience, empathy, and connection—not just for the children but for everyone involved. Let this be a call to embrace the messiness of love and the rewards of building a larger family together. It may not be easy, but the impact is undeniably transformative.

As much as May is recognized as Foster Care Awareness Month, June shines a light on one of the primary goals of foster care: reunification.

In Texas, approximately 40% of children leaving state care are reunified with a biological parent or family member. Every successful reunification represents hard work, healing, growth, and the hope of restoration.

At every stage of the foster care journey, we often say, “Reunification is the primary goal…until it isn’t.” We believe that restoration and families are close to the heart of God. We also trust that every child’s story is unique and that their path will unfold according to what is ultimately best for their safety, well-being, and future.

This month, we celebrate the families who have worked tirelessly toward reunification, the children who have been able to return home safely, and the many foster families who faithfully loved and supported them along the way.

Successful reunification isn’t the end of a story—it’s the beginning of a new chapter.
💜 Join us this June as we advocate for, support, and celebrate family restoration whenever it can be achieved safely and successfully.

Fostering a sense of family can reveal the deep connections we often take for granted. This family's journey exemplifies how welcoming a child into your home is about so much more than just a legal process—it's about creating unconditional bonds that last a lifetime. When they brought their new son home to join his sisters, the joyous moment reaffirmed that family ties extend beyond blood. It's a heartwarming reminder that love, care, and commitment can create true kinship in unexpected ways. Let's challenge the narrative around foster care—every child deserves a loving environment where they can thrive. Together, we can make a difference by embracing those who need us most.

Many hesitate to open their hearts and homes because they fear loss or uncertainty about how to invest in foster care or mentorship. Yet, countless stories reveal that these efforts not only enrich the lives of those we serve but also foster empathy, understanding, and grace in our communities. Investing an hour a week can produce a ripple effect that transforms children into compassionate young adults. Embrace the unknown; the rewards of connection and growth far outweigh the fears. Each small step counts in creating a kinder world.

Kinship care offers a vital avenue in the foster system—placing children with family or close friends who already have a connection to them. This approach not only nurtures a sense of familiarity during a challenging time but also emphasizes that family can extend beyond traditional definitions. Often, these caregivers step into their roles with little preparation, highlighting their resilience and commitment to keeping children grounded in love. Embracing kinship care helps challenge the notion that family is solely about blood ties; it’s about relationships built on trust and understanding. Let's keep advocating for all forms of family that offer warmth, support, and stability.

Every family, regardless of their circumstances, needs a support network they can rely on during challenging times. The idea that foster or adoptive families are solely responsible for their journeys is a misconception. Often, it's the community that helps them navigate the complexities of attachment and care. Building a circle of support not only fosters resilience but also strengthens connections, making room for love and understanding. Remember, it's the small gestures of help that can make a monumental difference in someone's life.

Opening your home to children in need isn’t just about providing shelter; it’s about embracing a divine calling to love and support others. Many believe foster care is simply a system for temporary placements, but it’s so much more. It’s an opportunity to deepen our faith, foster connections, and create a sense of belonging that transcends traditional definitions of family. Sharing moments of prayer and heartfelt discussions not only strengthens those bonds, but also makes room for healing and growth. True family extends beyond bloodlines—it’s about being there for one another with open hearts.
