🧡 PTO This Week at PSI (Week of May 10)

Carnaval is THIS SATURDAY and we cannot wait. 🎉

🎉 CARNAVAL -- Saturday, May 16, 12-2:30 pm | PSI Back Lawn and Bus Lot | FREE
Food trucks, live music, games, inflatables, the Storiole, and the Carnaval parade at 1:30. No ticket, no cost. Just bring your people.

🧡 AMITY HOST AND COUSIN FAMILIES -- Watch for a hint to what Sr. Maslowski promised this week! In the meantime: 2/8 host families confirmed, 8/24 cousin families for 26-27. Deadline is Saturday. Link on website to learn more.

👕 SPIRIT WEAR SWAP -- drop gently used PSI gear in the bin at the front office this week. Swap table at Carnaval Saturday.

📚 READ WITH YOUR BUNNY -- RESCHEDULED Thursday, May 14, 6-7:30 pm | PSI Media Center | K-1 families | Free. Tips for supporting reading at home, snacks, and prize drawings. Co-sponsored by the PTO.

🌱 PLANT EVENT -- Friday, May 15, 2:30-4:30 pm | Student-grown veggies, herbs, and flowers. Free will donations support the PSI garden.

🙏 Teacher Appreciation Week was five days of celebrating every person in this building -- and this community delivered. Thank you to everyone who showed up for our staff last week.

PSI families -- our own Sr. Davis is the 2026 Minnesota Teacher of the Year!

Every child in our school has been in his classroom. We could not be more proud.

Heads up, PSI families!

Local St. Louis Park brewery Ullsperger Brewing is hosting their Annual Mexican Fiesta TODAY, Saturday May 2, noon to 10pm, and they are generously donating part of the proceeds to Park Spanish Immersion.

Beer, churros, sopapillas, yard games, and good vibes in their parking lot.
Come celebrate Dos de Mayo with your neighbors and support a local business that's supporting us right back.

We can’t let today slip by with our saying happy National Principals Day to our very own Dr. Corey Maslowski! 👏🎉

Sr. Maslowski has been leading PSI for 16 years, and before that served in leadership roles across St. Louis Park Public Schools, including at SLP Intermediate and Susan Lindgren. He has spent most of his career in this district. He knows this school from the inside out, and it shows. His dedication to building a community where every student is seen and every family belongs is what makes PSI, PSI.

🤝 Sr. Maslowski has made a promise.

All month we've been celebrating the Amity Interns who show up for PSI kids every single day. Now we're asking PSI families to show up for them.

Sr. Maslowski has committed to doing something unforgettable for our students — but only if we hit 8 host families by Carnaval on May 16.

We're at 2. We need 6 more.

Here's what one host family said about the experience:

"The Amity really became part of our family — speaking Spanish together, baking recipes from home, learning how each other's families celebrate."

The only space requirement is a private bedroom with a locking door. That's it.

And if hosting feels like too big a commitment right now — we still need 20 more cousin families. Cousin families support an Amity Intern all year without hosting. Outings, rides, a friendly face outside school. Your pace.

What does hosting an Amity Intern actually look like?

For one PSI family, it looked like becoming tourists in their own hometown — wandering Stone Arch Bridge and finding a new coffee shop on a random Saturday, just because someone new was along for the ride.

"Hosting sparked cultural exchange and global curiosity without having to leave home. The Amity shared so much about their hometown, culture, travels and experiences. We love seeing our children's little minds budding with curiosity about other cultures and places in the world."

PSI families make the Amity Intern Program possible — and host families make it personal. If you've ever wondered whether your family could do it, the answer is probably yes.

This week at PSI 4/26 🧡

What a month. La Feria is wrapped, Cuarto Grade is crowned (almost 55 lbs of coins across all grades!), and Amity Appreciation Month isn't done yet.

A few things for the week ahead:

📝 Grades 3-5 have MCA Math testing Tuesday and Wednesday, April 28-29, 8:15-10:00 am. Early nights and good breakfasts help!

📚 PTO Book Club -- Tuesday, April 28, 6:00-7:30 pm, PSI Media Center. Raising a Secure Child. Come having read all of it, part of it, or none of it.

📖 K/1 Family Literacy Night -- Thursday, April 30, 6:00-7:30 pm, PSI Media Center. Free event for Kinder and 1st grade families.

👕 Spirit wear collection starts May 1 -- outgrown PSI gear finds a new home at Carnaval.
