This past week 10 students traveled to Indianapolis for the 99th National FFA Convention! They spent the week talking to colleges, at the expo center interacting with leading agricultural and business professionals, making friends from across the nation, and attending leadership sessions and contests!

In addition, our Horse Evaluation competed and received a Silver Award! This team went through two days worth of competition! In addition team members brought home individual awards! Haley Huffman - Gold Awards, Laeken Blank - Silver Award, Caroline Wiseman - Silver Award, and Isabelle Zischke - Bronze Award. In addition, Haley received the NHJCTA Equine Management and Evaluation Certification.

This past weekend Laeken Blank competed in the Regional Farm Bureau Discussion Meeting. Congratulations to Laeken Blank that was selected as one of the individuals to advance to State Farm Bureau Discussion Meet!! Laeken we are so proud of you! Congratulations Laeken!!

Ag Classes the past few weeks!

Plants and Wildlife collected plants to identify anatomy and physiology of different plants and differing plant characteristics! They finished their soils unit where they conducted soil ribbon tests, looked at soil under the microscope to identify living and non living factors, and a pH and potassium test!

Zoology just finished the unit on Safety and began their unit on Broiler Production! They spent the last few days setting up pens and the chickens arrived yesterday for Broiler Contest!!

Chelsea and Sophia spent Thursday morning reviewing our upcoming POA with Mr. Ballard and Mrs. Sackrider! The officer team is super excited for the events for the upcoming school year! Thank you Mr. Ballard and Mrs. Sackrider for meeting with us over summer break to gain approval on all of these events!

FFA officers Chelsea Moinet and Sophia Hagerman recently delivered a presentation on the St. Johns FFA Program of Activities for the upcoming year!
When asked about their favorite part of being in FFA:
Chelsea: "Getting to be a part of an organization that pushes me to get out of my comfort zone, gain new qualities, and meet new people."
Sophia: "Getting to meet everyone and being immersed in the community."

Fun fact - The first year that women were allowed in FFA was 1969. St. Johns now has a female advisor (Mrs. Buggia) and these two female officers!

Today, Hudson Smith competed in Michigan FFA Tractor Driving Contest - Zero Turn! He competed against students from all over the state and had to complete a Pre-Op Check, Safety and Operational Test, and a Course to demonstrate skill!

Hudson was named State Winner and received first in the Contest! Congratulations Hudson! We are so proud of all your hardwork and dedication!

Special thank you to MSU Horse Teaching and Research Center and David Lindsay for pulling together a few classes for our Horse Judging team to place! We appreciate your willingness to assist our team as they prepare for Nationals!
