The Church Sag Harbor

The Church Sag Harbor The mission of The Church is to foster creativity on the East End and to honor the living history of Sag Harbor as a maker village.

05/30/2026

We have rescheduled our celebration of the extraordinary creativity of our Pierson students to this Sunday, May 31, at 12PM.

The celebration takes place on the studio floor of The Church, and includes Sag Harbor in Focus, an exhibition of photographs through students’ lenses of their life and times in Sag Harbor. Work represents the categories of Architecture, Home and Family, Portraiture, History, Still Life, Landscape etc. etc. along with  a truly fabulous fashion show under the guest teaching and collaboration of fashion designer Mary Jane Marcasiano and with the help of Nancy’s Tailoring.

We are proud to celebrate the creativity of our Pierson High School students with their families and friends, and the public is warmly invited to attend (Free!).

If there were ever a time to let students know how much they and their efforts matter, the time is now, and I encourage you to attend and honor the creativity of the youth of our community.

The Church proudly presents its summer exhibition for 2026, This Land: Considering the American Landscape.

The United States marks its 250th anniversary in 2026. Responding to this milestone, curators Donna De Salvo and Seph Rodney have conceived a transhistorical exhibition exploring the prompt: "What is the American landscape?" The presentation brings 19th-century Hudson River School paintings—often considered the first true American art movement—into dialogue with contemporary works from artists who continue to draw inspiration from the natural world today.

Featured Artists include: Jeremy Dennis, Thomas Doughty, Asher B. Durand, Cristina Fernandez, April Gornik, Leslie Hewitt, Sky Hopinka, An-My Lê, Zoe Leonard, Richard Mayhew, Charles Henry Miller, Kent Monkman, Mary Nimmo Moran, Thomas Moran, Arcmanoro Niles, James Perkins, Albert Pinkham Ryder, Lucy Raven, Anastasia Samoylova, Meg Webster, selections from Dan Flavin’s collection of Hudson River School paintings and works on paper, and a contribution from the Center for Land Use Interpretation.

Stay tuned for more exciting announcements! 👀

In light of recent events, we have decided to postpone tonight’s opening reception for the Student Exhibition.

Our hearts are with the families, friends, students, teachers, administrators, and all those who are grieving. We hold the Pierson and Sag Harbor communities in our thoughts and extend our deepest condolences during this difficult time.

The Student Exhibition is a celebration of the creativity, talent, and spirit of our young people. Tonight, we instead pause to honor the importance of community and to care for one another.

We will announce a new date for the opening reception soon. Thank you for your understanding and compassion.

“A WORK OF BIOGRAPHICAL RECLAMATION”

SATURDAY, MAY 23
4PM
TICKETS: General $25 | Members $20

BOOK TALK: GAYLE FELDMAN, Author of NOTHING RANDOM, in conversation with CATHLEEN MCGUIGAN

Step into the world of the founder of Random House with Gayle Feldman, the author of Nothing Random: Bennett Cerf and the Publishing House He built- a book The New York Times, in a rave review, compared to Robert Caro’s The Powerbroker.

Nothing Random, twenty-three years in the making, was hailed by The Washington Post as “a work of biographical reclamation [and] a whole lot of fun… in its pages, Feldman depicts a lost world, at times a lost paradise, when New York, Hollywood and the literary life were at their most glamorous and privileged.”

Cerf’s star-studded life stretched from William Faulkner to Dr. Seuss; George Gershwin to Frank Sinatra; Gertrude Stein to Judy Garland; FDR to Henry Kissinger.
