Over a decade ago, Kroger made a commitment to get the egg laying hens in their supply chain out of cages. Sadly, they have abandoned that promise, but animal advocates are holding them to account.

Until Kroger makes good on their word and adopts a cage-free policy, people who care about animals will keep showing up at harristeeter HQ and beyond.

As long as these hens are in extreme discomfort, Kroger and Harris Teeter should be a little uncomfortable, too.

Te tudod mi az a szemnyél abláció?

A garnélatenyésztésben a nőstény rákok egyik vagy mindkét szemnyelét levágják, összenyomják vagy leégetik. A szemnyélben található az a hormontermelő mirigy, amely normál esetben gátolja a petefészek érését. A csonkítással a hormon szintje leesik, így a rákok sokkal gyorsabban és gyakrabban raknak petéket.
Ezen kívül a szupermarketek ellátási láncában a tenyésztett garnélarákok döntő többségét ma is fullasztással vagy jeges vízbe (jégkásába) dobással ölik meg, ami a tudományos kutatások szerint hosszan tartó és intenzív szenvedést okoz az állatoknak. Bár a jégkása célja a sokkhatás és a gyors ledermesztés lenne, a sűrűn egymásra pakolt rákok jelentős része nem hűl le elég gyorsan, így lassan, akár órákig tartó fulladás következtében pusztul el.
Mivel a tudományos kutatások igazolták, hogy a garnélák érző lények és képesek fájdalmat érezni, az érzéstelenítés nélkül végzett eljárás óriási stresszt és szenvedést okoz nekik.
Nemzetközi állatvédő szervezetek, mint például az International Council for Animal Welfare (ICAW) komoly kampányokat indítottak a nagy európai szupermarketláncok, köztük a Lidl ellen, követelve a kegyetlen beszerzési források felszámolását.

KROGER LIED!

They promised over a decade ago to stop keeping the chickens in their supply chain in tiny wire cages that cause immense suffering for the animals.

Animal activists visited Fred Meyer HQ to hold Kroger accountable.

As long as they attempt to avoid their cage-free commitment, they can expect activists to show up and protest any individuals or entities they may be affiliated with.
