🏘️ Building housing is only part of the conversation. Preserving existing affordable homes matters too.

Proposition 1 would authorize funding for the acquisition, rehabilitation, and preservation of affordable housing, along with supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness.

For communities already home to affordable housing residents, preserving existing homes can be an important part of maintaining long term housing availability.

LifeSTEPS works alongside affordable housing communities to provide educational and supportive services that help residents strengthen their stability and well being.

The results have just come in and 98% of youth in our Sacramento region who participated in our Summer Reading Program maintained or increased their reading level this summer! 🎉

Thank you to Sacramento Literacy Foundation for your ongoing support of our Summer Reading Program, BFITS. Their generosity provided youth with books to keep them reading all summer long, along with new backpacks and school supplies to help them start the school year ready to learn.

🎓 Spring 2027 Scholarship Applications Are Now Open!

LifeSTEPS is proud to support residents pursuing higher education and investing in their futures. Through our scholarship programs, we’re helping residents take the next step toward their educational goals and build a stronger, more stable future.

Scholarships are open to residents in California living at a USA Properties Fund community, AMCAL community, or a community where LifeSTEPS provides services.

Application Deadline is October 23, 2026.

For LifeSTEPS, housing stability is closely connected to the ability of individuals and families to build stronger, more resilient communities.

This is why we support California Proposition 1, the Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2026. It would authorize $11.25 billion in state bonds for housing affordability programs.

The measure includes funding for:
• Affordable rental housing
• Preservation and rehabilitation of affordable homes
• Homeownership and down payment assistance
• Veterans’ home loans
• Farmworker, tribal, and student housing
• Supportive housing for Californians experiencing homelessness

This month, we’re shining the spotlight on two team members who make a meaningful difference for residents and clients everyday.

Tan, an FSS Case Manager, is passionate about helping families overcome barriers and reach their goals. Through client support, housing workshops, and community outreach, he brings integrity, compassion, and a genuine commitment to the families he serves.

Elijah, a Director of Social Services and Program Coordinator, is known for creating welcoming communities and building trusted relationships with residents. He is excited and committed to creating meaningful change across the residents and communities he serves.

We’re grateful for the dedication, heart, and positive energy Tan and Elijah bring to our LifeSTEPS team!

LifeSTEPS was honored to attend the 2026 Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition (AHTCC) Fall Meeting and Recognition of Housing Tax Credit Excellence, held September 23-24 in Washington, DC. As a proud sustaining sponsor of the AHTCC, we value opportunities to support and advance affordable housing initiatives nationwide.

As part of the coalition's advocacy, we were grateful for the opportunity to meet with the offices of Representative Linda Sánchez (CA-38) and Representative Judy Chu (CA-28) to discuss issues affecting affordable housing and the communities we serve throughout California.

Thank you to the AHTCC for organizing these valuable conversations and to everyone who contributed to advancing policies that help expand access to affordable housing nationwide.

So much has been happening at our Community Spotlight this month at Bell Creek! Residents received nutritious food through an on-site distribution made possible by Together We Thrive Food Bank, followed by a Fall Festival filled with pizza, connection, and helpful services from AT&T Mx.
