🚜 RETIRED FARMERS & TEACHERS—WE NEED YOUR HELP!

The Prairie Pumpkin Patch is looking for volunteers to help during our school-group days.

We need:

🚜 Retired farmers who can safely operate an older John Deere tractor while pulling a wagon filled with children and adults.

🍎 Retired teachers who are comfortable getting and keeping the attention of young students, dividing them into groups, and directing them to their next activity.

🎄 Would you attend a Christmas Dinner & Mystery Theater in Rugby?

Prairie Village Museum is exploring a special Christmas evening featuring a meal, Christmas carols performed by a choir, a live mystery-theater performance during dinner, and a final Christmas song with everyone invited to sing along.

The estimated ticket price would be $30 per person, including the meal and entertainment.

DID YOU KNOW? Rugby once had its own school of nursing!

The Good Samaritan Hospital Nurses Training School was organized in 1910 under the direction of Marie Larson, R.N., the hospital’s first superintendent. Students completed a three-year curriculum, and the school’s first class—four young women—graduated on June 1, 1914.

The school became accredited in 1916, allowing its graduates to take the state board examinations. Over the following decades, generations of nurses received their training in Rugby.

The Good Samaritan Hospital Alumnae Association was organized in 1920, when the school had 21 graduates. The association advocated for nurses and worked to improve their profession. At the time, some private-duty nurses were working 20-hour days for only $5 per day. In 1937, a new pay schedule was established:

• 20 hours — $7 per day
• 12 hours — $5 per day
• 10 hours — $4 per day
• 8 hours — $3 per day

Rugby’s nursing program also participated in the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II. The school’s final class graduated in 1954, bringing more than four decades of local nursing education to an end.

🔎 SOMETHING NEW IS COMING TO PRAIRIE VILLAGE MUSEUM IN 2027...

We’ve been working behind the scenes on an entirely new way to experience Prairie Village Museum.

PRAIRIE QUEST: Historical Investigations

Beginning in 2027, museum visitors will have the opportunity to add a Prairie Quest investigation to their museum visit.

Pick up an official Prairie Quest case file and your investigation begins.

Explore the Village. Study the evidence. Visit historic buildings. Follow the trail. Use what you discover about real prairie history to piece together what happened.

Investigate on your own or work together as a team.

And somewhere in the middle of all this is a fellow named Prairie Jack...

Is he a suspect? A witness? A troublemaker? Or is everyone looking in the wrong direction?

We're not telling. 😉

What we will tell you is that Prairie Quest won't be an ordinary scavenger hunt. You'll have to observe, think, investigate and follow the evidence to crack the case.

👀 Keep watching. Over the coming months, we'll introduce you to some of the characters and give you glimpses behind the scenes as Prairie Quest comes together.

A huge thank you to High Plains Equipment - Rugby, ND !

After the recent storm, they generously loaned us their large shop fans to help dry out two of our large metal buildings following the water removal. Their support made a difficult cleanup much more manageable, and we cannot express our appreciation enough!

We also want to thank the volunteers who answered our call and showed up when we needed help. You are the reason Prairie Village Museum is one of the best museums anywhere!

We are incredibly fortunate to have such generous businesses and dedicated volunteers in our community. Thank you all!
