Detroit residents helped write the city's first watershed management plan, which provides a framework for improving water quality, managing stormwater runoff, and building resiliency. Now Friends of the Detroit River and The Eastside Community Network will work side-by-side to put it into practice.

Over three years, the partners will build a community-centered approach to carrying out the Detroit River Watershed Management Plan. We’re proud to support this work with a new three-year $318,000 grant to Friends of the Detroit River, a steward of the river since 1996.

Before Motown, the Blue Bird Inn on Detroit's Old West Side was the birthplace of bebop jazz and was a hub for the city's jazz community. Our grant partner, Detroit Sound Conservancy, is restoring the historic venue, so its story lives on.

We’re proud to continue supporting this work with an additional $250,000 to help advance the restoration and a sustainable business model for the venue as led by Detroit Sound Conservancy.

The Ecology Center studies and educates people in the Great Lakes region on the impacts of pollutants in the environment and need for stringent environmental laws. The Great Lakes PFAS Action Network, administratively supported by the Ecology Center, gives communities affected by PFAS (also known as “forever chemicals”) pollution a voice in cleanup efforts.

The Action Network is a resource on PFAS-related issues for decision-makers and the public — particularly for farmers, veterans, businesses, and families who live near military bases.

In Grayling, Michigan, its community leaders provided support and advice on cleanup at the Camp Grayling National Guard PFAS Site. In Oscoda, it remains involved in similar efforts at the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base.

We're proud to support this work with a $100,000 grant to the network and $125,000 to the Ecology Center's daily operations.

When arts organizations are well-supported, they can focus on what they do best: making, teaching, and sharing art with their communities. The Detroit Arts Support program gives nonprofits across Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties the stable, multi-year flexible funding to do just that.

We're proud to be part of this shared effort with The Kresge Foundation and the Hudson-Webber Foundation. This year, we granted nearly $2 million to 71 arts and cultural organizations.

A $175,000 grant supports The Nature Conservancy in Michigan’s chapter through an important leadership transition and as they deepen their relationships with nonprofit partners across the state so that they can continue to meet the state’s long-term conservation needs.

Our grant partner the Anton Art Center began in 1969 as a community effort to bring art classes and exhibitions to the historic Carnegie Library Building. Today, it now operates out of that historic building and is Macomb County's largest and longest-standing visual arts organization.

We're proud to support Anton’s work with a new $81,000 grant to help it invest in the care of its facility, its physical accessibility, and its long-term planning for its capital needs.

River Network is a national nonprofit that helps water-focused organizations in the Great Lakes and beyond protect the rivers and streams in their communities.

With new support, River Network will expand its ability to support groups in the Great Lakes region with resources like trainings, technical assistance, and cohort-based learning. We’re proud to support this work with a new three-year, $635,000 grant.

For democracy to thrive, all citizens have to have the opportunity to take part. In a city where about one in five residents lives with a disability, Detroit Disability Power ensures every one of those voters can cast a ballot without barriers. Our continued partnership will support accessibility audits and technical assistance at polling sites, education and training, and equipping residents with disabilities to serve as civic leaders. We’re proud to support this work with a $200,000 grant.

The United States and Canada created the Great Lakes Fishery Commission in 1955 to coordinate research and management of the fishery the two countries share. The Commission has a long standing reputation for cultivating strong partnerships in the region. A new effort will incorporate more Indigenous expertise to support healthy Great Lakes ecosystems.

The Commission will convene tribal leaders and Indigenous communities in both countries to share knowledge and set collective priorities centered on land, water, and community. This work will also prioritize infusing Indigenous expertise into Great Lakes policy, research and monitoring. We’re proud to support this work with a new three-year, $882,000 grant.

Roughly 90% of developing Alzheimer’s therapies stall in what researchers call the “valley of death” — the tricky early development phase between laboratory discoveries and initial clinical trials where traditional funding is scarce. The Part the Cloud research program was created by the Alzheimer's Association and philanthropist Michaela “Mikey” Hoag specifically to bridge this gap. Since its inception, it has raised more than $100 million and funded 88 research projects across 12 countries, advancing dozens of promising studies toward viable treatments.

In honor of Fred Erb, who lived with Alzheimer’s for the last 12 years of his life, we’re awarding a $3.5 million grant to the Alzheimer’s Association to support the Part the Cloud research program.
