Royal Oak Concert Band

Royal Oak Concert Band We are the Royal Oak Concert Band (ROCB), an 80+ member ensemble of aspiring professionals and serious amateurs from across the Detroit, MI metropolitan area.

We are a non-profit organization of volunteers who play for the love of music. The Royal Oak Concert Band (formally the South Oakland Concert Band), founded in 1963 by Harry Begian, is an adult community band open to all area residents in the Royal Oak, MI area. The ensemble rehearses and performs a wide range of repertoire. Each season consists of four concerts as well as summer performances at a

rea parks. The ROCB also features a jazz band, the Woodward Avenue Jazz Orchestra. The jazz band performs in tandem with the concert band during the season, as well as several community concerts. The Royal Oak Concert Band is always looking for new members.

We're gearing up for our 2026-27 season!

A few weeks ago band Treasurer Zack and Director Kevin traveled to Pinckney to accept the donation of the music library of Paul Lichau, former executive director of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association. We're excited to incorporate his music collection into our library and are grateful for his support.

A new season of music is almost upon us! We are seeking new members to join us for our upcoming concert season, especially to play oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, French horn, trombone, tuba, and percussion.

General George Washington asked us to remind everyone that he'll be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the Royal Oak Leprechauns game on Thursday, July 2 at 6:35 pm at Memorial Park!

The pre–Fourth of July celebration will have music from the Royal Oak Concert Band, and the Ezra Parker Chapter, Inc., NSDAR and Royal Oak Historical Society will join the fun with hands-on colonial activities for kids.

We couldn't help but notice... and we think the Royal Oak Inter Club Council (ROICC) might agree... there's a remarkable resemblance between General Washington and Major Steve Woodward!
