We’ve been the Riot Theater Company since 2014. Obviously, in light of the how rioting is spreading across the country as a side effect of police brutality, systemic racism and white supremacy, we’re considering what our name should be in the future as the word Riot clearly seems to be one we should not make light of. Whatever that name will be, we want it to be one that is consistent with our goal of welcoming all audiences in a spirit of fun and mutual respect.
Riot Improv will not be performing as previously scheduled on Saturday, June 6th. If you’re in the mood for comedy, we encourage you to check out Comics Rising, a terrific show hosted by Reece Cotton (https://www.comedybycotton.com/event-info/comics-rising-live-stream-2-0) which will be on Saturday at 8 pm. Reece has been producing fantastic shows with for the past year and a half that are focused on boosting a variety of voices and particularly Black Female voices and we will be dedicating our energies on Saturday night to supporting their show.
However, we understand that many of us won’t be in the mood for comedy for a while. Something that some of our company members are doing is adding the price of a show ticket to what we’re giving to the Massachusetts Bail Fund (https://www.massbailfund.org/donate.html), an organization dedicated to helping those who cannot post bail due to financial hardship.
We firmly say that Blacks Lives Matter (we are not using the hashtag so that we do not block important information from being disseminated) and are participating in as we continue to form plans to further TAKE ACTION. Reece Cotton Comics Rising
