After nearly four decades in education—and almost 30 years with Rockford—REAMS is saying goodbye to an absolute legend: Mrs. Colleen Peterson 💚

From growing up in Monticello to following in her parents’ footsteps into teaching, Mrs. Peterson knew early on she was meant for this work—and it shows. Whether in the classroom or the gym, she’s spent her career building relationships, creating joy, and making every student feel seen and cared for.

From unforgettable obstacle course days to the daily hugs and connections with students and families, her impact goes far beyond PE class.

A proud mom of five and grandma to 8 girls, she’s built a legacy both at home and in our schools.

Her advice? Teaching is hard—but it’s worth it. And she’s lived that truth every single day.

In retirement, she’s ready for a new adventure—restoring a boat and making it entirely her own 🚤

Mrs. Peterson, thank you for the energy, the care, the laughs, and the love you’ve poured into Rockford. You will be deeply missed (yes… even the weekly texts 😉).

What happens when students meet a real author? Possibilities open up. 📚✨

Thanks to donor support, students recently connected with local historical fiction author, William Durbin, gaining a behind-the-scenes look at the writing process. Experiences like these help students see themselves as future authors, illustrators, storytellers, and creators.

Because of this amazing community, we purchased 163 gifts for Rockford staff and raised $1,340 for mini grants that will continue making an impact in our schools!
