If you’re able to, please take a moment and support a firefighter from Birmingham who is battling cancer.

Firefighting is recognized internationally as a cause of cancer. Firefighters are more likely to develop cancer than the general population.

One of our own needs your support.

Our brother, Birmingham Firefighter/Paramedic Bob Abraham, is facing a battle with Stage III colon cancer.

At just 39 years old, Bob is a devoted husband, father of three, firefighter, paramedic, and educator who has dedicated his career to serving others.

Now, it’s our turn to stand behind him and his family.

The Yard Foundation has established a fundraiser to help ease the financial burden as Bob undergoes treatment and recovery.

We’re asking our community, fellow first responders, friends, and families to rally around Bob.

If you’re able to donate, please consider doing so. If you can’t, sharing this post can make just as meaningful a difference.

Nobody fights alone. We’ve got your back, Bob.

On Friday, Council Members Mark Skelcy and Bradley Limberb, along with the Mayor’s Chief of Staff, Erin Sudrovech, attended Fire Ops 101. They participated in numerous drills, including vehicle fires, house fires, HAZMAT, vehicle extrication, active assailant response, and technical rescue.

This Oakway event allows members who make important decisions within their communities to see what a day could look like for fire personnel and understand the challenges they face.

A few members from the swift water team were out this morning for their monthly training going over different skills. The Clinton River runs through Rochester Hills along with numerous small lakes, ponds and streams. The swift water team is trained and prepared for any water related rescue that may arise.

Earlier this week, your Rochester Hills Professional Firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle on fire inside of a garage.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a well-involved garage fire with significant extension into the rest of the home. On-scene crews worked quickly to control the blaze. Thankfully all occupants were able to exit the home, and no civilian or fire fighter injuries were reported. The cause remains under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Thank you to the fire fighters from Auburn Hills and Rochester for assisting us at the scene, and to the firefighters from Bloomfield Township who responded to calls while RHFD units were handling this fire.

REMINDER: We are hiring Firefighter/Paramedics. Visit www.rochesterhills.org/jobs to apply.
