We are so excited to announce that Savings Bank of Walpole in Rindge has committed $10,000 to FORi projects. $5000 now and $5000 in early 2026.

A $25,000 gift and a challenge to our community.

John and Pattie Petrou, longtime residents of Coot Bay, have made the largest donation to date toward rebuilding the Wellington Park courts.

John and Pattie have played tennis for many years and more recently took up pickleball. They’re appalled by the deep cracks and poor condition of the current courts. They believe everyone in our community should be able to play on safe, well-maintained public courts.

Now, the Petrous are challenging other residents and local businesses to join them in supporting the Wellington Courts Project.

Their generous gift brings us closer to replacing the damaged courts with four dedicated pickleball courts and a new tennis court, all available to the public at no charge.

The Proposed Court Plan

What could replace the worn courts at Wellington Park? The proposed plan calls for four dedicated pickleball courts with permanent nets and one dedicated tennis court.

The layout would give each sport its own playing area, improve safety and access, and make better use of the existing court footprint. Dedicated courts may also qualify for sport-specific funding that isn’t available to the current shared layout.

The total fundraising goal is $250,000. Rindge voters have approved $100,000 through annual Town votes, and FORi has raised another $89,500, bringing the combined amount secured to $189,500 That leaves $60,500 to raise. FORi hopes a $50,000 Town appropriation will be placed before voters in March 2027; because that proposal has not yet been approved, it is not included in the current total.

The Wellington Courts Need to Be Rebuilt

The cracks at Wellington Park Tennis and Pickleball Courts are no longer small maintenance issues. They run across playing areas, surround net posts and extend into entry points. A posted notice warns players to use the courts carefully.

Temporary repairs won’t solve the underlying surface failure. Full reconstruction is needed to create courts that are safe, durable and useful for both tennis and pickleball.

Meet Friends of Rindge Initiative
There’s a new way to support the community places in that make Rindge feel special - Friends of Rindge Initiative (FORi) is a local nonprofit created to help fund improvements to parks, trails and protected spaces in Rindge.

We work alongside residents, local partners and the Town to help good projects happen.

FORi currently has two projects. Wellington Park Courts is our primary project, with a $250,000 fundraising goal for reconstruction. At Tetreault Park, FORi is raising $50,000 to add a toddler slide and swing set and complete the children’s playscape.
