Last week, we were honored to have Senator Andy Kim and several other community leaders serve at our Walk-in Dinner! Alongside our regular volunteers, board members, and staff, these leaders helped make sure that over 130 of our Bergen County neighbors had a hot meal served by friendly faces.

We would like to congratulate Board President, Paul Shackford on receiving the 2026 Russ Berrie Making a Difference Grow the Ripple of Positive Change Award! Paul, along with 29 other incredible nominees, were honored at an awards ceremony on Friday, May 8, held at the Angelica & Russ Berrie Center for Performing Arts at Ramapo College of New Jersey. Recipients of this award were nominated by past honorees, who felt that these individuals carried on this legacy of impact and are changemakers within their communities. This marks the second time that an individual from Family Promise has been honored by the Russell Berrie Foundation, with the first being our founder and former board president, Nancy Woods, in 1998.

Thank you to the Russell Berrie Foundation for honoring Paul and his remarkable leadership in addressing housing and food insecurity in Bergen County. And thank you Paul for your guidance and commitment to Family Promise’s mission to empower working families!

Six years ago this week, we completed our first week of serving 400 meals a day at St. Cecilia's in Englewood with World Central Kitchen to feed families and individuals in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

What was meant to be a two-week program continued through October 2020! Due to the incredible turnout of volunteers and support from local Englewood restaurants, we distributed 46,000 meals and 68 tons of fresh produce.

The windy weather did not stop our hikers from having a blast at this year’s Hike for Hope! Thank you to everyone who joined us last weekend for a historic sunny day and walked to support Bergen County families facing housing and food insecurity. We are incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm and hard work shown by our hikers and supporters, it’s because of you that we can continue to provide the services that empower working families with children every day. Whether you registered, donated, volunteered, baked cookies and brownies, put up a yard sign, or simply got the word out - you played a huge part in making this a successful day.
